I don't use the in-house attachments, because I host my images elsewhere. I can allow larger sizes than 100kb as a bonus.
So can you. You have a website. If you are savvy enough, you can upload your photos to a private folder on your site and use the method:
(Inserting the images full URL in-between).
This is assuming you do this stuff via FTP software on your own. If you leave this up to someone else, then just keep doing what you are...
