What's the idea behind the cordage?

Not speaking for Lorien, but on a short little handle like that I would like a little cordage as part of a hand guard for limbing. Maybe I wouldn't be using it as intended at all though. But when I see the design, that is immediately how I think I would use it.

Between the shiv and the fighter is a D2 hunter/skinner Nathan did years back. Dudley, those are beautiful. (Hopefully I'm allowed to say that. )

Jo, my Dear, you can say anything that you so desire.....that's the knife you guys were so kind to let me get from you when we first met in Atlanta....Blade 2013 I think.

Nathan made me a special pair of double-edged pieces sporting book-matched Ironwood.....they reside in a matching pair of Paul Long sheaths.
