Nothing wrong with wood, especially with how Nathan ensures it is as stable as it possibly can be. The traditionalist in me favors natural materials over synthetics but with that said, I know from experience that the chief attraction to wood for me is its aesthetics. I replaced the Ironwood on a couple of my CPKs because I wanted to be able to comfortably use them without the wood turning black. Ironwood, Cocobolo, Rosewood and a number of the darker, nicely figured woods will turn black with extensive use and exposure.
So no, you aren't wrong in that your knife will hold up just fine but its appearance will undoubtedly be altered.
That's pretty much what I figured. I buy extra scales for that reason. I got my Shiv with wood scales, and I also ordered a set of ebonite and ECAM scales.
