Pic of forthcoming Fallkniven Bowie Knife

While that may be true, General, and I'd certainly love to own one of these (and like I said earlier, I probably will, if I can find the price slightly reduced), I certainly cannot imagine getting much better performance than the Fallkniven A1, or the Busse Combat Basic 7. Beauty, yes. Performance? I'm skeptical. Yes, I said "...my next big knife purchase" as in definitely. But then I read the price. For that price, you could get one custom made in various steels from Caveman Engineering (Geno Denning). So, I'm kinda rethinking my earlier statement. It is such a beauty, though.

I guess the proof will be in the actual internet prices.....

I too was completely sold on this knife until the price reared it's ugly head! Yumpin' yiminy! You can find great custom knives for that price or less. It's a shame too, as it is a real beauty.

Yep, the price as is will kill this knife.

When you reach $300+ a knife has to be very very good, when its nearing $450, its custom territory and given the choice...

This knife needs to be $250 or less to stand any chance IMHO. And that is not cheap either.:(

Hi, maybe the price is high, it's not a cheap knife so it won't be cheap. Too high? maybe, maybe not...

Did you read the information? i think it explains why the price is so high.
High quality and innovative designs never comes cheap :)

I'm a total folder fan, but this one with it's laminated blade speaks to me...crap, another "me wants" knife :)

Fine!
First I feel" CS Trailmaster with lether", and VG-10 blade is not rusting.
I dought what is the best in CS Trailmaster, Marbles Trailmaker, Busse 9, and Mad Dog T.U.S.K.

Fair points, but the Busse BM/E has set the pace. Any knife that costs so much more than this knife needs to be very very special. Is this knife that special? I just don't know.

Just what I was looking for...at about $200.00 more than I would be willing to spend. I guess I will stay with the Marbles Trailmaker, unless this comes down to be competitive with that one in price. For that much I would go custom. Looks like a great knife though.

Do not put too much faith in that price quote, it is the estimated price in Sweden.
Generally prices are much higher in Sweden than elsewhere when it comes to knives.

As a comparison the standard CS Trailmaster costs about $370 here, the San Mai version $550.

More to the point, the price directly from Fallkniven for an A1 with kydex sheath is about $160 here in Sweden.

We will have to wait some time to see what the final price will be in the internet shops.

Hey Per!

Nice to see another Swedish knifenut here, we're waay to few.

Feel free to drop me a line anytime :)

Welcome and enjoy yourself!

Welcome Per, it's nice to have you with us.

There seems to be a lot of jumping the gun going on here. The price has not been set and it could be far less than people are estimating. When we know the actual price then we can make judgments as to whether it is worth the price. For now all I can say is that I like it very much and hope the final price is one that I am willing to pay.

I liked it UNTIL I saw the handle - I hate stacked leather. It looks slippery, just like all my knives with stacked leather handles.

I'll take Kraton or a similar material any day.

The blade looks nice, though...

I'm with you. My hands hate stacked leather, I'd prefer even kraton to it, and of course micarta to that. I'm also not totally sure I'd be willing to be vg-10, even san mai vg-10, for big chopper (ala the 10" version).

Thanks for the welcome!

Jonas, yes we are too few but I am trying to educate my friends and I'm having at least some success :)

I'm already enjoying myself, been lurking for ages :D

Ahh, good to see you're spreading the gospel, so am i!

Great that you finally decided to join at just not lurk, it's much more rewarding that way :)

It looks like alot of people would like to see a moderately priced Randall style bowie with a VG-10 (or other good stainless) blade. If the manufacturers won't provide us with one, how about this idea:
Are there any custom makers out there who could rehandle and add a metal guard to a Fallkniven A1? If so could it be done for a reasonable price - say $50 - $75? I have seen on the Eight Dollar Mountain website that they will put their D guard handles on a customer's blade, although I think a D guard is a bit of overkill for the A1. I think the price was $40 for this service, but I am not sure about this.
I have some other knives I would like to put guards on, especially my Becker knives, which I have cut myself with owing to their slippery handles.

Hey WT....

I'm not sure,,but I don't think that anyone would do a job like this for $75.00..
Just putting scales on a blade could run you that..It's quite a bit of work....
Especially when you take into effect that there are no holes in the AI tang that could be used for pins...

I just started working on a blank I bought from Ron Hood that I've had kicking around and can't believe the amount of work I still have to do on it,,and thats even taking into account I have a professional knifemaker and all his tools at my beckoned command.

I'm doing the same thing on a Gerber Pro Guide,, but this is a finished blade,, that I'm only slapping on custom scales..Not half as much work,,but still a few hours of work...

To have something done like what you are talking about would take a bit of work...

ttyle

Eric....

It's seems a might pricey. But it's not what I would have exepected appearance wise. If the final product is as nice as this one looks. Fallkniven has done a damn fine job. I can't wait to actually get a chance to check one out in person.

Regards,

Tom Carey

While I really like the look of this knife, I suspect the price will dramatically limit its sales. How about a non-laminated less expensive version? I for one would prefer an all Vg-10 blade.

Hello Big-Target,
If you are talking about the Next Generation Ka-bar, I will agree. I have a D2 model, and I like everything about it except for the guard. I don't know why they went to a single guard on the new ones. IMO it spoils an otherwise fine knife.
As for the old-style Ka-bars, there is certainly a place for a good knife in the $40 - $50 range. They are an excellent value, and I for one love those double guards.
