I surely wouldn't be sad to have one in a brown tone, but I still think a dark red would have more wow factor. I don't know the first thing about dyeing bone scales but GEC has a fair bit of experience with it and is certainly capable of deep reds...it can't be a total crap shoot, can it? There must be some way to steer clear of the magenta end of the spectrum and keep it dark if that is the stated goal. Or is that not in fact the case?
GEC does a great job with reds, and particularly so with red sawcut. The "I'm afraid of pink" thing is mostly just a scare tactic to sway votes.

The pink examples that have been shown are from the run of 77 NF barlows that were to be Elderberry camel bone. Predictably, the camel bone did not saturate consistently, and many of the knives came out bright pink.

I think its going to turn out nice whatever color we choose, but my favorite choice right now is red, and I have no concerns that they will do a great job dying them.

No disrespect intended to waverave - I have no experience with GEC's saw cut bone; so I have to ask... What are the odds that the knives will actually look like the images? (Specifically with regard to color/shading).
For example, I wouldn't expect the colors to be so uniform; and would white/ivory be so grey over the central portion?

I went with red, hopefully a dark red.. I think the pinker reds are the ones in camel bone, are they not? It seems to take dye much more inconsistently than cattle bone.
I wanted smooth white originally, but I'm not sold on a sawcut white. I'd like to see an aged sawcut white, that might change my vote.
Ivory bone, new:

I think this one is about 50 years old, and I'm guessing has faded from a light brown/caramel original color:

After 100 years or so, white bone can look more tan or yellowish like old ivory.

A lot of the 85s that I saw from the last run of smooth red bone had more pink on them than I would want. I’ll be happy with red if it comes out dark, but I prefer brown.

Where’s the “Anything but red” option? I vote BROWN. Copperhead, chestnut, dark brew, anything would be nice.
That happens when the white and brown voters (okay that sounds wrong out of context) form a coalition, and combine our votes to defeat red. We just have to decide which way to shift.
Is Beige an option?

Sawcut rotten banana is something pretty unique and hasn’t been done yet according to all the pictures posted in these threads.

Plenty of people have sawcut red and browns to show, I’ll vote for something that none of us have.

we know what you meant, you closet racist, you...... 🤣
me? I'm like the old Sunday school song... red and yellow, black and white... ok with me, but personally, I'm a little scared of the green voters..... o_O

JK, JK.... I think the sawcut white might be a good way to go, and in truth, if the dark brewed brown, or the antique yellow (or whatever they are calling it today) were to win, I'd be happy with those, as well. wishy-washy, wishy-washy

If I saw a Rotten Banana surge, I would switch my vote back!

White can be dyed anything ya want.
If it's your new EDC (I always love how the Forum Knife is going to be everyone's new EDC when we all know these are going right in the collection drawer), the scales will be brown before you know it! :D

Rotten banana can go either way - the ones I've liked, I really like...but that isn't really all that many. I'm not brave enough to take the chance on a luck of the draw sample

I think the old Ulster Meerschaum bone might be close to a darker beige (if that was real and not joshing). It is a nice alternate to a red or a brown (IMO) and looks good on sawcut bone. OH

Beige is a funny word, but I'm not totally joshing. If I can't get white/ivory, my second choice would be a light brown. something close to caramel color.

Even though I am late to the party and missed the boat, I’d love to see it in green as I really do love a nice bright green!
