Picked up Becker bk7. Disappointed by it.

The Kabar/Becker costs much less than your Esee knives. Compare it to an Ontario Spec Plus Gen II series of knives which are in the same price catagory.I think you will see that you are getting just as nice a knife with a better sheath.

Hey Essestatic.......

I am pleased that you are pleased............Perfection IS a goal and the people at Ka-Bar are, like the rest of us, still working on it.........IMHO customer service is realizing when you have missed the mark and doing something positive about it........

I realized back in the seventies when I was making climbing equipment that I hung on, on the weekends, that in a perfect world you would Magnaflux, X-ray and static test each piton, biner and hammer. but, each of those tests cost more than the RETAIL of the item.......I came up with a little riff on the subject..

60% of perfection costs very little more than 20%

80% is till relatively cheap

90% starts to hurt

95% is real expensive

99% only the US govt can afford it (think NASA)

100% look toward heaven.....

Anyhow please have a great big bunch of fun and please share it here........

Welcome to the neighborhood !!!!!!

All Best......

i'll remember that the next time my boss is talking about a zero defect product with no testing, on time, under budget, and a pony :)

Hey Essestatic.....

Sorry about the fit and finish complaints on your Seven......If there are probs you can contact Ka-Bar 1 800 282 0130 and ask for Tooj and he will most likely fix it.....Pics are good.....I too am a big fan of Esse Knives and love the usually impeccable fit that Shon Rowen bestows on everything that his name goes on.......

As for sharp....Ka-Bar products usually leave the plant with a very aggressive edge not polished but aggressive.....But, dullness like feces occasionally happens no matter how deplorable it is......Contact Tooj as soon as possible so we can fix...I hope that you will give us a chance to make it better and that you will give us another shot.....All Best....

So I went to the army navy store and they swapped it no questions asked. The blade they swapped it with is sharp as can be and has beautiful fit and finish. I am so excited to use this knife this weekend.

To anyone looking to buy a Becker knife, DO NOT let this thread deter you. I wish I could change the title of the thread to something less negative.

The fact that my concerns were addressed in less than an hour by the man who designed the knife was enough to make me a believer. I see many BK&T knives in my future. With that kind if service, how could you not admire the man/company?

Ill have to post a follow up thread to this one to give my respect to the knife. Hopefully one day I will be a certified beckerhead. Until then, thank you all for your help and guidance.

I don't own a Becker... yet. But I will (the BK15 and the BK5) soon. ^ That is a lot of the reason why.

Nice to hear that you got helped out by all involved. Of course, you realize we're expecting some pics after you get out and dirty that blade up a bit right? And then more when you've stripped and modded it :)

Welcome, and thanks for sharing your experiences so far with us.

I had a similar issue with my 2--it has a divot running across the spine about an 8th of an inch from the tip. It hasnt troubled me much as it doesnt affect the integrity of the blade, and the 2 is my workhorse--meant to be used and abused! But, interesting if there's a pattern.... Wish I could post pictures, still working on that.

If this doesnt make you a Becker Fan for life, what else would? When Mr. Becker himself takes the time to help with an issue, Customer Service doesnt get any better than that. Thanks Mr. Becker

Good GOD man................................................WHERE IS THE PITCHERS ??????????????????????????????????????? lol :D

I am a new blade enthusiast. I own several knives by ESEE, and a few others that I have recently purchased for camping/survival. I really love the design of the Becker Bk7, so yesterday I pulled the trigger on it and bought one from a local army navy store.

Again, I couldn't be happier with the design. Mr. Becker did a fantastic job on this line of knives. That being said, the fit and finish of my blade leaves much to be desired.

The knife came brand new in box. When I got home and opened it, the first thing I noticed is how dull it was. Of course that's not the biggest of deals, I can sharpen it, but it was definitely the dullest of the knives I've bought in the recent past.

Secondly, upon inspection, there are several imperfections in the steel. What I mean by this is that there are spots in the tang and pommel where the steel is dented. If I was home right now I would post pictures. The only way I can describe it is it looks like someone took a small flat-head and hammered it into the steel.

Thirdly, and probably least importantly, the shape of the grivory handles does not line up completely with the tang. I've read that this is common.

Maybe I am just spoiled by the A+ fit and finish of my ESEE knives, but these three things left a sour taste in my mouth, which is rather unfortunate. I was looking forward to getting a BK2, and possibly others from the line. the store that I bought the knife from does not accept returns, so it looks like I am stuck with it.

Has anyone else had issues like mine? Maybe I'm just too much of a perfectionist.

Interesting. Your first Becker experience was, unfortunately, pretty much the exact opposite of mine. The BK-7 I received a few years ago, mine was ordered over the net, was one of the sharpest production knives I had ever gotten, and even after chopping enough apple wood that the coating in that area was completely worn away it would still take hair off my arm...not cleanly, but it would still take hair.

Same with my 9. Have chopped, and batonned, and it still shaves.

Hi, I'm happy that at the end you're happy with your new knife. And I'm very impressed by the fastness with which Mr Becker has given his help for your case.
