Picked up the Nite Ize LED for the mini Mag.

Thanks for the tip! The only LED upgrade for the Mini-Maglight I had seen previously was advertised at a price equal to that of the light itself.

I suspect the 3-LED drop in modules are going to drop in price because Nite Ize started marketing a single LED (1 watt!) module a couple of months ago.

The 3-LED drop in is nice and floody and probably best for close-up work, but the 1W drop in is VERY nice -- it has a spot almost as bright as my Fenix L0P on high and a good amount of sidespill.

I saw the single 1 watt on their site, pretty snazzy. That will really bump up the mini mag to a much better field light. But I'm happy enough with the 3 bulb. I have lots of flashlights (as most of us seem to :)) so always have more than one on me.

I bought the 3 bulb set last year. I like it because it extends the battery life. I think that Mini MagLite will outlast me!

I upgraded a couple of my Mini Mags with the Nite Ize conversion and it was a definite improvement, lightwise, not to mention not having to regularly replace bulbs. That said, I, later, bought the new Mini Mag LED AA and it rocks.

Doc

Does anyone know if you can use lithium batteries in your mini mag-lite with one of these drop in LED kits?

You guys mean the old N.I drop in for the Mini Mag ?

I was not really impressed with mine after 'upgrading' it , yea the battery life is extended and the light itself is a nicer white color but the overall amount of light did not change much.
I am tempted to buy the 1W but was so jaded after the last one I am hesitant.
The 'upgrade' I bought for my 3 D cell Mag was even worse.

I am sorry, but what does YMMV mean? Thanks.

Your Mileage May Vary, or you may have a different result when you try it.

For rechargeables, I wouldn't use lihtiums with this because of the huge voltage difference, but NiMh should be fine.

Primary lithiums (the Energizer ones) have the same voltage as alkalines, so they should also be fine.

But I'm happy enough with the 3 bulb.

Yeah, I thought that, too. Then I actually saw a 1watt in action. Then I had to buy not one but three! They blow the 3 LED upgrade out of the water and it has a brighter spot focused beam than my Surefire E2e.

Thanks. I emailed Nite Ize and asked them. I am looking for a small LED light that takes AA lithium or alkaline batteries for my kit. I have more faith with the lithiums in cold weather. If I can use them with my mini-mag light, it may be a cheap solution.

lithium should not be a problem, will last nigh onto forever. They put out the standard voltage within enough 'points' to work.

Mine also works fine with my AA NiMH rechargeables.

I scored one of the nite ize 3LED kits for $4.50, too. I love it. I don't care all that much about 'focusing' on a minimag, I'm not out for the most super brightest evar light, I like moderation. battery life is a huge bonus.

Rebeltf, is your D-cell upgrade a Nite Ize or an actual Mag LED? The latter are fantastic -- I have them in all my D-cell Mags now. I've never used or even seen beamshots of the Nite Ize D-cell LED module.

The Nite Ize version , it is horrible and IMO a waste of $$ unless they have improved it.

The "flood" is so weak it's embarrasing.

Seriously I have a 1AA Chinese knock off LED that puts out more light then the N.I. one in my big Mag.

I do plan to get one of the actual Mag upgrades for it though.
