Picking my next knife

(I'm starting to fit in here now right?).

Yep, hoping to spend the low end of your spectrum, but then you find one that is a bit nicer for just a bit more (over and over again). Then Boom, dollar limit.

Then you find another you like for $20-30 more...

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm definitely keeping my eye out on the For Sale forum. However, I'm pretty sure if one of these knives goes up, then I'll miss out on it. There isn't any way to subscribe to a feed or something is there?

You can only subscribe to threads, not subforums (afaik).

Yep, it is an exclusive that They requisitioned from Benchmade. That being the case, they are the only Vendor that sells them, the other avenues being various secondary market locales.

knives ship free is legit. good place to order. i didnt know that was only 250$ thats a decent price, i thought they were like 400+ but i was thinking of the demasteel blade version. I like M4 but it will patina/rust in humidity, keep it dry or just keep the edge oiled (i use fluid film) otherwise that DLC coating should prevent any issues on the rest of the blade.

Skyline scales with absolutely not work on a shallot. Its not likely you will find anyone making carbon fiber scales for the shallot either. If you did you would end up probably spending as much on the scale( only one since you have to leave the lock side alone) as you would the knife itself. Get a benchmade and forget the Damascus. Seems like your leaning that way anyway. I would point you toward some great Spydercos but you think there unattractive.

It's probably unfair for me to say they're unattractive. I've seen plenty of spydercos that look quite nice. However, within my budget I think I'm looking for something more like the Axis Stryker II.

Would putting WD40 on the edge of the blade help preserve it?

Mineral oil works fine, is cheap, and is food safe.
A little goes a Long way, so a bottle will last years.

Shake bottle, crumple up paper towel, open bottle, wipe some oil off the inside of the lid and lightly make a "slicing" motion on the oiled up paper towel with your knife, put bottle away until next time.

That's a good point. If I ever want to cut food with it, then WD40 is probably not the best choice. I know for straight razors it is a common blade preservative for long term storage.

Nice choice, Enjoy it.
Please bear in mind, it is a slippery slope. Hopefully this one will last you awhile.

Under normal circumstances, You really shouldn't have to do anything to prevent rust issues. Unless perhaps you're around saltwater all the time? I've done nothing to protect mine other than giving it a wipe after cutting fruit. I've used it out in the rain and not even wiped dry before back in pocket, no issues. All I've ever done to mine is a drop of lube in the pivot to help with the action when I first got it, and I've run the edge on my Spyderco double stuff to touch it up a few times. Great knife, and KSF is outstanding!

Great choice. That Benchmade is on my short list.

Ones not mentioned, would be the ZT 0620CF and the 0562CF. Both are exceptionally well made. The only difference, is they are Carbon Fiber on one side, only. The other side is a titanium frame-lock. Or you could check out the ZT 0452CF. Long, slim, and sexy, but with the titanium lock side, as well. You can probably tell I like titanium frame locks. :D

Really, though, you made an excellent choice.
