Picking the Perfect EDC Fixed Blade

There is no perfect one, but there is one perfect for you. I've had a Braford Guardian 3 and for me, the handle was a little too short. It may take a few before you find one that checks all the boxes.
You can always try to trade into a knife for you or make a thread in the WTB forum to see if there's something reasonably priced in your budget that may be used.
Either way, happy hunting.

BRK (there's an ongoing like/hate thread on the brand, so you are warned) Mini Kephart. Nice thin slicy CPM 3V blade with an excellent length/weight/toughness matrix. My EDC for 3+ years now, and I'm not looking to replace it. The 3.75" blade has enough "reach" in a lot of applications where a 3" will just frustrate you (food stuff, mostly).

I love my bradford knives. I have the guardian 4 in 3v. It is wicked slices! They make a guardian 3 that looks more edc friendly. I can say from experience the bradford knives are wicked nice!!

Redmeadow Knives Redmeadow Knives has about a dozen of his Cowbell model almost ready to go on his sub forum. I have been carrying mine for a couple of months and it’s fantastic!!! Check it out for sure.

Check out the Ferrum Forge Lackey, or maybe the xl version if thats not too big for your uses. I have the smaller version in d2 and it’s a nice little blade. You’d have to get a small tek-lok/g-clip or something to mount it, think it only comes with some ball chain.. I use mine with a Mummert ti clip and its perfect.

Also that White River with burlap micarta is a good choice, brother in law has that exact one and it’s nice. You’ll definitely want a tek lok or g-clip for that too though, the stock belt “clip” on that is pretty lame lol

What he said.
I've carried the same fixed blade for most the past 3 years. (Though, admittedly, I occasionally carry others simply because I like to)
From your description, however, it sounds like a Mora would suit your needs for a lot less money.
I actually have a Mora that I leave in my hunting bag. I guess I am looking a blade that is a little more refined. Classy.

Since you mentioned wanting a slicey fixed blade version of a Bugout, check out the Benchmade Altitude. Handle shape is completely different, of course, but the blade shape is quite similar.
I've eyeballed these for quite a while. Just not sure how well the handle feels. So far I haven't found a skeleton handle that didn't give me hotspots. (I've read mixed reviews on whether the Altitude's handle design was different)

What about something along the lines of a Loveless style drop point? A good to great design in a manageable size that is not optimized for defense. A quick search on e-Bay shows a few at a variety of price points from do-able to way too much.

And they generally seem readily accessible but not eye-catching in a modest boot sheath.

For small with a thin handle and very spicy blade I like my Barkie Canadian ( or mini) if the idea of convex blade ex will work for your uses. I like the patriot as well. Let us know what you end up with!

While it may come in a bit above your price point, I wholeheartedly suggest looking at Fiddleback Forge. I've known Andy Roy on these boards for years, and you won't find a better guy to do business with. On top of that, his handles feel made for your hand. I can't quite describe it, but they are like a warm handshake. I think his stuff starts in the mid 200s and goes up from there. He has a sub forum on here, and you'll sometimes find weekly deals or members looking to thin their herd. Worth a look.

When I carry a fixed blade, it's a Monarch. I bought it for my birthday last year, but it's been a steadfast companion on many a walk with multitudes of edc chores tackled.

Here's a pic I just snapped with it next to a Buck 110 for size comparison.

The Altitude's handle is a one-trick pony, IMO. For delicate detail work it's excellent - pretty much perfectly optimized for a pinch grip.

Hammer grip does *not* work.
