Pics added ! New to me Buck 428 /

OK. More colors = the search continues to fill the gaps in the collection. I still need the orange handle for the V52! And I have none of the 428, oh my, at all...

Does anyone have a maroon V52? Anyone?

DM did you transplant that blade yourself? Nicely done. Changeability knows no limits with you. I struggle to find that which already exists while you not only ask "what if" you actually bring it into reality. Admirable.

ITE thank you for clearing that up. I didn't want my ramblings to confuse any newby, of which I consider myself one. I look forward to your photos my friend.

300 an old crippled elk! You kicked axe at the BCCI 25th like a pro. You could host any event, thrill the crowd and be invited back next year. I would consider myself doubly blessed to be so feeble. I need more photos of your collection. In fact I am pretty sure that mods are required to lay their Buck cards out on the table. Yup, uh huh, it is a fact. You could look it up.

Here's a 428OD (more pic's on the SPS)... I have not seen any other colors of this model...
But, I have heard of a orange handle one... Just one... So if there is one, there could be a
maroon handle one and even some clear ones or clear color ones... Same with the V52s...
Who knows... Like the 422s and 426s... I didn't even know about clear Bucklites let alone
clear color ones, until my son and his wife gave me one... So I'm hoping that some day
I will find some different color 428s and even some clear ones and the same with the
V52 selector's.... Does anyone have a black 428 or V52 with Bucklite on the handle...

428OD... mine has Bucklite on the handle

Ooh la la. Be still my heart. Fantastic find and great photo. Thank you kindly.

Leroy, sage-like that he is, probably has the skinny. If only he would host a story time once in a while here...

Here is my 428 with some additional blades I built for it. Now, all the blades lock as I redesigned the handle too. This is my favorite hunting tool and the two blade handle is very comfortable. I also, have a Selector skinner blade that is a two line stamped blade. I ask Joe H. about this and he said some were done that way. DM

David, like your blades... Good job...

Everybody's looks great. If I can find the OD and Orange handles and the half serrated hawkbill I'll be very satisfied. Probably need to to buy the handles with some blades but that's OK means extra stuff. Now to figure out how to keep all the blades together besides rubber bands, maybe a bandaid tin.

Oregon, Thanks. Yes, I made the trailing point or large sod buster blade from bar stock 440C, heat treated it and polished it. Then on the other side of the 428 two bladed handle I removed the non locking bar and replaced it with a locking and installed the blade. Now, I have a two locking blade Selector. DM

Here's a ad for the New Bucklite/Selector Dec 1990... I sure would like to have this sample Selector...
It doesn't have Selector on the handle... One more to look for now...

:)

I was on a web site earlier today that showed the Damascus blades available to the knife. Only I can't recall if there still available.

This is the info from the model history on the BCCI website. There is a little more info there if you want to see it...... 300

• Frame length 4 7/8”, basic blade length 3 3/4”, 425M (until 1994) & 420HC (after 1994) stainless steel
• Two piece VALOX handle with matte finished faces
• Introduced in 1991 with black, orange and olive drab handles and a single interchangeable blade initially available in 7 styles and ultimately available in 10 styles
• The Outdoorsman Selector Set (#429A7) was introduced in 1994 with a black handle and sheath plus a clip, saw and serrated drop point blade
Model No. 429 “V52 Selector” Continued
• The Hunter Selector Set (#429A8) was introduced in 1994 with an olive drab handle and camouflage sheath plus a gut and skinning blade
• The V52 Selector system was phased out at the end of 1995

In the photo I posted with the original Selector blade it is a 1990 blade and has the 'Selector' name on the handle. So, that handle in Early's photo could be an earlier proto-type. DM

All of you Selector aficianados might be interested to know that all of the Selector blades can be dropped into the Model 186 Titan handle. Talk about a modular knife! You can also modify premium blades to fit the Selector handle. Check out #4 and #5.View attachment 393382

Hey thanks for the specs DM, all my blades from date codes then are 425M. I'll have to look up that Titan 186.

Should I change post to say 429 since I was mistaken? And I saw one of the 186 bucks, very cool but not as easy as the 429. After reading some posts on the 425M steel there doesn't seem to be a lot of love for it by some but these bladesare sharper then any 420HC I have ever had (scary sharp).

Found a black 429 handle for sale but I don't need it for 30.00, anyone have the stock numbers for the orange and OD handles, the black is 429BKH?
