I just got it in the mail! Beautiful to say the least. My only question is why is it so hard to open that it requires two hands? I can see the lockbar is pressed against the blade when closed, but it feels almost like a magnet is holding it closed. I know this is a different detent than my old one, but this is almost too much.

Mine just arrived today as well.
Same model as yours except a Spanto blade.

Mine doesn't require two hands to open but is tighter than my Sebanza was new.
Just need to work it a little and let the parts "wear" together, then it should be good to go.

I am very impressed with the quality. All the good things everyone says about Rick's knives still don't them justice.
Ron was very helpful through the entire process and quickly answered every email I sent. Great people.

Got my Slicer yesterday as well. I love the new detent. It allows for tension to be built up and BAM!, it flies open. My Spanto has no detent and has accidentally come open in my pocket a couple of times, so this detent is a welcome. Not to say I prefer one over he other. Both are amazingly smooth, jewel-like, and ready for anything I can throw at it on the J O B. I've already taken I apart just to see the innards. Maybe try disassembling and reassembling and see if a little fresh oil/lube does the trick.

I'm glad to hear they are shipping. I've been anxiously waiting for mine to arrive as well.

As for your knife, it is probably just a little stiff and will wear in with use but are you sure you aren't applying side pressure to the lock when you grip it while trying to open it? This is common for people unused to frame locks.

Damn I'm jealous, everybody's getting new Hinderers!!!

I'm due for mine around the end of 2011 or 1st of 2012....yeah!! Til then show off those beauties guys so I can enjoy them! :D

I carry a Sebenza now and previously had another XM. Can I adjust the blade without the expensive tool?

I do but I'm going to buy a spanner from Rick as my home made tools are a little awkward. One of XM-18's came w/o lock-tite and I've always left it alone, once every couple of days I tighten it with my thumbnail - cheap tool eh? :D

I made one out of a dime until I got the actual armorer tool. The coin worked ok but the tool is a hell of a lot better. :D

So I just need some sort of spanner which I don't have and a flathead screwdriver to adjust the blade? Simple enough as I really want to get the skull filler tab first.

I am off tomorrow so I may hit the hardware store and see if I can find something.

Not having imbibed in 25 years or more I share your past experience. I should add that I don't miss the camaraderie & stench of a corner bar. :D

brother, ya need to take a deep breath, and pop that helmet off for a while,

1) Its the internet.
2) If it ain't fun, then why do it?
3) Don't click the heading.

Its about having fun, bro.

Now, quit yer bitchin'.

I have been playing with it more and once the blade is partly deployed, it is smooth as butter. It is just getting the blade out taking the tension from the lockbar off that causes the issue.

Any way to contact Rob by phone?

I've answered your email Lee, I don't constantly check here for customer service issues. But I will go over it again for you. The detents are stiffer now to prevent the knife from opening in your pocket when the pivot is loose. 95% of the knives that come through the shop for sharpening or refurbs, the pivot is extremely loose and it became a concern that the knife could open up as FirNaTine had mentioned. All of us at the shop open and close each knife at least a dozen times through the final stages, no knife has the left the shop that we feel is too stiff.

Appreciate the reply here and the email. Maybe I am used to opening my Sebenza and will have to try holding this one differently.

Maybe the next one will be a flipper.

Maybe the 1st one should have been a flipper! LOVE 'EM!! :D :D

Congrats to those who have received their new Hinderers, patience to those waiting and wishes for found money to our forum friend at the metaphorical corner bar (lol) as for the stiffness. Unlike other knife makers who frown on "flipping" their creations I knew Rick/Rob were my kinda folk when I first read (I think it was Rob) say Flip that bad boy, play have fun! I paraphrased but that was the idea. Gotta love a maker of great knives that tells you to use your knife.
I'm sure flipping opening closing and using will make your knife meld and feel more like "your knife" everyday.
Anyway, thanks again to Rick, Rob and the shop for such great Knives and all the joy that they bring to us Knife Nuts.

I'll second that! I won't forget about 2 yrs ago when posting about flipping the XM-18 knife hard and Rick posted in - which is unusual since Rob usually fields the questions. Rick said "slam it open as much & as hard as you want - enjoy!" - or something very close to that. And I'm reading his post thinking - YEAH!! :D

I was stunned to hear a maker publicly state something like that. His confidence in his knives is contagious and I know why. These XM's are some heavy duty folders and built with such precision that it just makes me shake my head sometimes - they are simply the best folding knives built in every way!

Yup! It musta been your exchange I was referencing. I sat back and said, "BooYah" you go man! After reading about "other makers" and how obvious flipping would constitute warranty voiding and so forth I thought no way, not for me. I own nothing that is in anyway pretty boy poser material. Guns should shoot, Camaros should shred tires and flipper knives should flip. Make it to use and use it as it was made.
Hinderer knives are simply The Real Deal. Had a buddy of 30 years call me the other day and ask me for a knife suggestion. I asked him what he was looking for, how he would be using it etc. His Xm24 should be arriving any minute. Bought it from one of Hinderers advertised dealers, price was reasonable considering all the factors. I assured him that was about what to expect. He'll be happy.
Good Times!

More guys need pals like you! :D
