pics from my solo 3-days/2-nighter.

Sweet looking trip and AWESOME pictures!! Im just getting into backpacking now. I just got a pack, stove, sleeping pad and a few others for christmas so excited to get out in the springtime!!

thanks! don't wait until spring time. with proper precautions, i like hiking in the winter way better - no bugs, when snow is on the ground i can easily wander around new areas and far less risk of getting lost or worrying about water sources, and far less hikers so i don't have to hide my big knives inside my pack :)

Awesome trip report JV3! Makes my hectic day’s work over here a little more bearable.
Love the camp set up! I’ve fallen in love with the Sea to Summit folding bucket (10 liters). Since most of our camps are usually a short walking distance from camp, I can carry a quite a bit of water back for filtering, the dog or boiling. It also folds up quite compactly and works like a charm…not knocking your water jug, but it’s nice to have that folding bucket store in a very compact fashion.

I noticed you Woobie, what sleeping bag were you using?

ROCK6

thanks! how's the weather there in afghanistan?
i like my ghetto water jug - the rigid handle keeps my sissy hands from the ice cold stream :D actually i left it there hidden between rocks because i frequent that area (hiked that same area 10 times this year) so i don't have to pack it every time. i figured i pack out 5x as many trash from strangers as that one jug every time i hike that i still have a positive environmental impact.

i have a north face bighon 20 deg bag and used the woobie as lining/extra warmth - it was still barely enough though. i saw that kifaru started making their sleeping bags again (i'd like a 0 deg bag next) but now i'm thinking of trying their paratipi & stove combo instead.

Another great post.
I love that modified nalgene cup, great idea.

thanks. i hate wasting things so it was good that the melted part was high enough to salvage it.

That was really interesting to read your commentary about your trip for each day especially the risk of using an inflatable bed over a foam one. Some really great photos also. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

thanks. as a side note, i started doing more research and posters on another board highly adviced using 2 foam pads if you have to sleep on snow.
