New movie: "Bears in the Mist" :D

Great pics myright. Thanks for taking us along. ;)

Man I was at most of those places just a month ago, haha. I wish I was there now. I Went to the SMKW and I bought a Swiss Army Rucksack (backpack) for only 10.00. I also got a Victorinox Rucksack knife. Thats all my wife would let me buy. I had my daughters 11 and 17 with me and my neice 15 and they stayed with me most of the time. I ended up spending problably 50.00 on just my youngest daughter and neice. I bought them some knives also. They love em. My oldest daughter was into clothes. So she didnt care about knives that much. We rented a cabin at Pigeon Forge behind the Applebutter barn. Its nice up there. I love going over the MTNs to Cherokee to Clingmans dome and Cades Cove. I really love that Rolling fork Motor trail. Im glad you had a great time and I love the pics. Thanks for sharing them. I ended up with the flu while I was there and it turned out to be a long drive home. Im glad it all went well for you and your wife and soon to be child.

I hear ya, I bought those two Case knives and also got a Buck lockback that I haven't taken pictures of yet. It was an expensive trip.... actually three trips :)

My wife slept in the car one of the trips. :)

I can't wait to go back, you're right, it's beautiful there.

What an awesome trip!

I can't believe nobody asked this - what was that snake you got on film there? Wow, so cool to see a snake that size! I had no idea you guys had such big reptiles over there. Figured the Eastern Diamondback was about the biggest N. American snake. Was it big or is an optical illusion./ I had another look and realised there's nothing in the shot to show scale. I'm a big snake freak. Would have made my year to see that./

That landscape reminds me of the movie First Blood. Was it shot in the same area by any chance?

Congrats on the Graham Bros spearpoint, that's my favourite one of theirs.

myright,
That Graham blade, is it the "Jackyl" or "Spear point"? I went on their website (for the first time after seeing your pics) and the two models look very similar. Thanks for the pics, now for some reason I wish I was out of the office and in the Smokies!! Thanks a lot!!! :grumpy:

I'd be interested in hearing about the snake too. He's colored like a cottonmouth, but doesn't have the pit viper head. Looks too thick for a black racer... Some sort of water snake? Rat snake?

That is the spear point.

I really have no idea what type of snake it is. There is a pine cone next to it that's probably a few inches at best. I would guess the snake at somewhere around 4 to 5 feet, but I'm not 100% sure.

It didn't seem very frightened by me and didn't even really lift his head as I approached. He may have just eaten or something. He had a bit of a white chin and the rest was all black.

As I took another step he took off like a bat out of hell and I didn't get to see where he went, it scared the hell out of me and I backed up very quick like :)

If anyone knows what kind of snake that is let me know, it would be nice to know.

I'm not sure about the Rambo movie.:D

Thanks for the compliment on the knife. It is, by far, my favorite knife in my collection.

My Bad. It was filmed in British Columbia. (The book was set in Kentucky.)

Looked liked a common Black Racer snake to me from your picture. Non Venonmous type of snake that is not aggressive, nor a hazard to people. Nice big one too!

I liked that photo too; looks like an old mountain man giving one the glaring eye! I always tend to 'see' the images others fail to notice out in the Bush. Thanks for sharing your trip pics, congrats on the baby on the way!

It took my wife a bit to see it even after I pointed it out to her.

My head is on swivel when I'm in the wilderness, I always want to take in all that I can and most of the time see things that others don't.

RACER should does fit for the name - He took off like a maniac.

cool pics & ditto on the "creepy fog"
it's a great place to visit

taken in january on my honeymoon

Awesome pic. It's hard to capture the feeling of the fog in the mountains on a picture, but it sure is a cool experience.

Well, you were lucky to see it./ Most snakes don't get caught napping like that./

Graham Bros make a wicked blade. I had a Razel SS4 for a while, but it was a bit too radical for me. I'd love a spearpoint by them though - my favourite blade profile./

Last time I checked they weren't taking orders though.

Huh, I never heard them called racers before. Down here in MS. we call em Black Runners. I like to go over to cherokee because it has alot of the things that i remember as a child. I love the stuff the Indians hand make there still. I went to some kind of Museum there and was amazed by the homade weapons. I must admitt I feel sorry for the captured bears there in those cement holders they have. I know there dangerous but they are so much prettier in the wild.

That was one place we didn't go that I wish I would have. By the end of the week we were both so tired of driving we just kind of stayed on the trails that were closer. 33 miles to Cherokee doesn't sound like much from Gatlinburg, but driving through the mountains at 35mph makes it feel like an eternity.

Black Runner is the local name for your area then. I'm sure if you look them up Black Racer is one recognized name given to that type of snake overall. Lots of various regional differences within the species itself, I worked with snakes for a bit of time....
