Ms Snow and I went on a short day hike today to check out a trail I've wanted to try for a long time now. We went to the Woodridge Park near Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas. This is one of the only areas around with a primitive campground. It's about a 4.5 mile trail with a few campgrounds and fire pits at various intervals along the trail. It was pretty cold and wet, but we got to check out the trail and campgrounds and practice pitching my new Skeeter Beeter hammock. I also built a tiny, tiny fire, but the wood was soaked, so it didn't last long.
The start of the trail:
Putting the NWA forum knife to use:
Throwing some sparks:
Our soggy fire:
The lovely girlfriend and my ugly mug:
The hammock:
A view from outside the hammock:
Me trying to get some sleep:
Another look:
Lakeside:
The hammock was very easy and intuitive to set up, and pretty comfortable as well. I had the feet high initially, but once I got it adjusted a bit, it was comfy and very stable. I will get to put it through its paces for real on Friday with J Williams, but for now, it seems like a great purchase. I can't wait to try it out.
