Ms Snow and I went on a short day hike today to check out a trail I've wanted to try for a long time now. We went to the Woodridge Park near Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas. This is one of the only areas around with a primitive campground. It's about a 4.5 mile trail with a few campgrounds and fire pits at various intervals along the trail. It was pretty cold and wet, but we got to check out the trail and campgrounds and practice pitching my new Skeeter Beeter hammock. I also built a tiny, tiny fire, but the wood was soaked, so it didn't last long.

The hammock was very easy and intuitive to set up, and pretty comfortable as well. I had the feet high initially, but once I got it adjusted a bit, it was comfy and very stable. I will get to put it through its paces for real on Friday with J Williams, but for now, it seems like a great purchase. I can't wait to try it out.

Great pics! To me there's nothing like being in the woods!,,,VWB.

Cool pics man, and a lovely lady you have there as well.

Do you have a tarp for that hammock?

Where are you going with J?

Yeah, I have a poncho/tarp to put over the hammock, but I didn't bring enough cord today to tie it up.

J and I are going to a place near Sedalia, MO called Hanging Rock. I've never been before, but it should be fun.

Cool.

Lately I have been carrying about 100' of paracord with me. I 50' of it cut into 5' and 10' sections all tied together with square knots. This way I don't have to cut up small pieces to lash anything togeter.

Watch yourself with J, I hear he gets scared at night and he might try to sneak in your hammock with you.:D

Yeah I need to cut some specifically to keep with my poncho rather than wasting a bunch by cutting it haphazardly on the trail.

BTW, the girlfriend thinks your daughter is adorable. We loved your family overnight pics.

As for J, well that's why I sleep with the NWA knife close. :D

Hey Snow, it's obvious nobody can fault your taste in knives or women (BF brothers, notice how the knives were mentioned first ), but sleeping with jake............................. - just got a chill!

Doc :D

He told me if we shared a hammock, I could have the kit you made him. It's a calculated move, but I decided it's worth it for the compass and jute twine bag alone!:D:cool:

Great pics and it looks like you have hit the jackpot with your GF, now the big question......have you got her a knife yet ? Breeden Kat would fit the bill !!!

my girlfriend always gets a good chuckle out of all the gear pics I take when we camp. glad you found one that will hang out and watch you make fires and what not. ;)

Cool pics and pretty lady you've got there. Every time I see a pic of a hammock it makes me want to get one and try it out.

How do you like it?

Oh I see. I go and watch a movie, come back, and you guys go to town.:D

I have only climbed in one guys hammock, and now you all are scared. I like to cuddle when it gets cold. Back off!:D

Seriously though, this will be cool. I am lookin forward to gettin out. Its probably gonna get cold, but It shouldnt be a problem if we can stay dry.

I was gonna head up and do this hike with Brandon, but I had court for a call I had on the bambulance where this dude got stabbed over a bucket of chicken he didnt wanna share.:D:D:D:jerkit:

I drove an hour to go to court, waited 3 hours, and then got told that the guy showed up to court drunk, and they couldnt take his plea, so they continued it till next month. Guess if you just show up drunk, you never have to go to jail?

Small town BS. The reason we were there was that this guy was too scared to testify against the guy who did it. Yet they showed up to court together, and sat next to each other. WTF?

Well, they cut him loose, and didnt even bbother to check if he was driving. He was. Idiots let a drunk driver leave and drive drunk from court. Now that is brilliant. I wanted to kick some butt in there. I was majorly pissed when I left.

Sorry for the rant. Ive bottled it up for too long.

Brandon, I look forward to fri bro. Im glad you got that hammock, I have the same one. Im on bambulance for 24 tommarow, Call me Fri morning to finalize!:D

J, sorry to here of your great day in court. Once you get your backwoods ninja degree you can become a vigilante and take care of all those idiots yourself:D

Seriously you two have a great time. Make sure you put something between you and the hammock to insulate you. If you rig the tarp realy close to the hammock it should keep the wind off you as well.

Take lots of pics.

Awesome pics. Soggy days make the woods nice and quiet.

Im gonna try some space blanket stuff. Weather says sunny, 60 degrees during day, clear night low of 39 degrees. Chilly, but I am wanting to combine the Hammock, and see what I can do with the space blanket you sent, and the other one I have. Reflecting heat, etc..... I bet I can work out somethin cool...... Im gonna go get me a poncho liner in the morning too.

I haven't slept in it, but I like it a lot so far. I'll post up a more detailed review after Friday.

Man that sucks about court. What a messed up system.

I'm getting pumped for Friday. I'm gonna go over my stuff again in a few minutes to make sure I've got everything.
