pic's of the cut and bend test

Rlinger,This is just a test for the ABS...Not something all your knives or mine has to do..They just do this test so you prove that you know how to properly differentially heat treat your Blades and how to work the steel you are working..

Bruce the general concenses on my knives was that i will have no trouble passing the judging, but I should keep the knives on the simpler side for the judging and not things like the Price Dagger I did..No problem I will just make some more and give them what they want..:D

Hey, Way to go Bruce. Funny thing I knew you could do it and didn't have butterfly one.:D

Big Congratulations from a Bama boy far from home. Only person nervous about this was you Bruce. Every knew that you'd pass. :)

Good job man,
Will

Congrats Bruce! :D

Looks like you boys on the other side of the country call 90degrees at about 100+ ;)

Glad to hear you have it under your belt officially Bruce!

Congratulations Bruce! Got any detailed pics of the knife? Looks like a great knife! :)

WAY TO GO BRUUUUUUUUUCE!! We never had any doubt you'd whoop ass all over that J/S test. Cool, now all your knives can have my initials on em. :D Outstanding.

Thanks for the kind words everybody.I knew in my mind I could do the test also,But when it comes time to take the test you get nervous and start wondering if you did get everything done correctly,Even though I made two blades at the same time from the same bar of steel and did everything exactly alike. When I tested one myself There was no problems,But when going with that second one that wasn't tested you start wondering things like. What if there is a bad spot in the stel and could I have gotten it any sharper, orare the bevels to fat..I finally just had to tell myself,It will work just do it..And it did work.
Thanks again everybody..
Bruce

Peter, it has a 10 inch blade 1 1/2 inches wide...Full tang handle that is just wrapped with some different colored Buckskin and is 4 3/4 inches long...What else do you want to know about the blade besides that it does have a distell taper all the way from butt to point..
Thanks everybody..
Bruce

They do THAT?!? Knives can really do that? I've seen videos before but I thought it was all a stunt. You can really do that?

Whoa, I just thought of something. If this is for JS, WHAT DO YOU DO FOR MS!?

Bruce, I wonder why Jerry had you hold the rope up with your hand. Thats doing it the hard way. Im glad Wayne Goddard did my test, at least I got to tie it securely to the rafters. Ive never tried it your way.

Hey, who is this guy in all the pictures? I'v never seen Bruce without a hat on...

No kidding Bruce B!!!! I would be afraid I'd get nervous and cut my leg off, and probably miss the rope to boot.

Clint...YEP, they really can do that. For the performance end of the MS test you have to perform the same duties with a damascus blade.

Thanks Bruce. The knife is just as I thought it would be, simple and well crafted. I'm looking for a design for a new camp knife.

I used 5160 normalized 4 times after forging, ground, normalized 4 more times, edge quenched once, and drawn back twice in the oven...

I am kinda curious about your process though. I'm sure you did many test pieces. Was this the best formula you came up with. It seems that it did all you could ask for (edge holding, cutting, toughness)

Peter,This is the formula that I use all the time on my knives except I quench deeper on my knives than I did on the test one.I personally don't see why I need to quench more than once as I am getting really great results with this formula. This is also the same formula that I used on the Dragon Slayer that Mario tested and cut the leg of lamb with and all his other tests without damaging the edge or loosing its sharpness.I might be able to get something a little more with all the other formulas out there, but this is working for me and I want to learn more about building the rprodution pieces so I have just stuck with it.
Just the way I do it...Not necesarily the only way.But it works..
Bruce
