I thought you did a multiple quench Bruce. I have trouble keeping all this straight sometimes. There are a number of people here, including you, who I don't question the reason for doing something, I just log it as the "Right Way".

Only, next time if I were you I'd wear protective gloves to protect my hands, just in case, and use a piece of iron pipe in which to put the blade's tang to have more leverage and safer distance from the blade should it snap.
