Thanks, Vassili.

To date I've been pretty much a "Benchmade Guy"; typically turned off by the Spyderco Serrations and goofy looking head with thumb hole.

After seeing this, and I may opt for a different color, though I do like pink shirts, I may just have to purchase my first Spydie. I do like the flat handle which reminds me of my KaBar Dozier though this would be with much better steel.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I see that you are very active on this forum, so I'll anticipate seeing your reviews on this, Vassili.

I'm very interested in trying out ZDP but I can't get over how ugly that maroon color is. I wish I knew about the navy blue ZDP-189 Delica when it came out. Please let us know how the ZDP performs!

I don't think the delica is out yet. I hadn't planned on getting one but after using the Calypso Jr. I think I'll have to get one. While I haven't really tested it much mine was the sharpest out of the box knife I've ever had. We'll see how it holds the edge and resharpens. The color is fine. God forbid a knife not be black.
Spyderco knives get better looking the more you use them.

Awesome knife , but, i'd feel like a girl if I got caught running around with that.:o:rolleyes:

What were they thinking when they chose that color.:grumpy:

Cool pics, mine should be here next week, I cant wait!
I kinda dig the color, a little more disarming than black.

mAN, I love the color, I don't give a hoot about ZDP, though. I may get it anyway, as I've been meaning to get a calypso for some time.

Well, I don't have such a fobia, even when I was teenager I had not. It will be very unlikely that somebody did not recognize me as a man because of burgundy color on the knife handle. I did not even thought about such an issue.

I think coloring knives has a great design potential. I prefer bright colors - orange, red... it may help to find it in the grass or dirt or snow - or even on the desk.

Anyway, knives are for cutting not to feel more manish.

And one of the best field knife - my faivorite called SissiPukko. And Sissi is ranger in finnish - nordic forest warriors.

Thanks, Vassili.

The color in the picture is a bit different than real life. It is really quite like Texas Aggie maroon.

Not real fond of the color & handle myself, but I like the Calypso's design. I wish Spyderco would bring back the old handle they used on the Calypso's - the smooth, glossy, black micarta. Still it is a good price for a good knife to try out some new steel.

I like the color, but I got it to try the steel.

The color is not as 'bright' as it looks in the pics, it's a bit more subdued.

Note that you can see the lamination line. It's flat ground (not hollow), so no angle change at that line. The only angle change is the 0.5mm microbevel right at the edge.

Being a Spyderco-and-Benchmade guy, I can tell you that if you haven't used a Calypso (regular or Jr.) before, you're in for a treat. These knives cut like a straight razor with something to prove.

Be aware the actual handle is a bit darker than in the photos (at least on my monitor). It looks just fine, distinguishes the version, and is much more interesting than just another black-handled knife.

I'm normally a "Benchmade knives guy", but I have to say that this Spyderco Calipso Jr. ZDP-189 is a nice folder...And it'll even work well for us "leftys".:).

Looks pretty sweet.

I wish you could switch the pocket clip around for tip-up carry though.

Handle color dosnt bother me, I would like to see bright orange or yellow as I have lost more knives in the woods than I care to admit! I like this knife! However, I am going to hold off on a purchase until Cliff does his testing! Do you hear me Cliff? :D  :D

Thanx Vassili,

nice pics.

Thank you Sal to make it awailable for everybody to experience this exotic steel!

What about Cowry-X, Cowry-Y, YXR7, Elmax, CPM S90V, CPM 10V...
Wootz?

It will be great if you run some kind of "Steel sample" limited edition model line, just to make that exotic steels awailabale for general knife public.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. What is actuall hardness of ZDP-189 on it?
