pig sticker choice

The company I work for has a ranch in S. Texas. We take customers down to hunt hogs with a guide. They have the choice, once the hog is run to ground, to go in with the guide to stab them. The guides all have a knife that has about a 12" blade that is fairly thin, but strong and once they stab them behind the shoulder blade, it is all over. Talk about a rush.

where at in texas exactly? my brother lives in dickinson near the houston airport.

Yeah man, go ahead and ask away. We're all lovers of the outdoors in some way, this is a great place to bounce ideas around. Everyone's going to have different ideas and thoughts on the world and that's the way it should be. It'd be boring otherwise.

I had an uncle stationed in Guam who said the spear fishing there was great. You'll definitely have a blast if you end up there. Good luck!

our friends were talking about all the cool hunting and fishing in gaum and they love to spear fish, they also told us they like to catch crab walking on the roads there, they get a broom and a bucket and sweep the crab into the bucket. unfortunately i'm alergic to shell fish but would still be cool to see all this stuff.

I worked with a guy who did a lot of hog hunting. it seemed like a bonding thing for he and his family. and i must say i couldn't get enough of his stories. it made me wish that i wanted to go! he really cared for his dogs, so the best stories were of his heroic attempts to save them.

I have been wild boar hunting and it's great. I took my (then) 7 year old son with me. I used a 44 mag and handloaded a nice 240 jacketed soft point that brought down a 350 pound sow with one shot. I wanted my son to see what it is like to kill a living creature and use that meat to feed the family. I wanted him to know that the meat that we sometimes take for granted eating came from something alive and real.
So I say if you are going to guam and do not go hunting there then you will regret it for the rest of your life.
regarding blades: I would vote for the BK 5 because of the point profile. It lends itself to sliding into flesh. I would not use a BK9 because of the point profile. Just my opinion. Lots of other great choices out there, but combat knives built for stabbing and slashing will work better than heavy choppers for pig hunting.
Oh and by the way, I don't own a BK5 but thanks to all of you posting, I will prolly order one this monday!
Lastly, It took us a bit over a year to eat our boar, and the bacon went first!
(doesn't bacon always go first?):D
Thanks,
Kickplate

Junglas =)

Is that the heart or part of the lung sitting on it? Crazy story. I bet BK9 would make a fine bacon maker.
