So I finally scored a stainless bottle from Guyot this week after jonesing after Doc's & Kevin's for months. Of course, I couldn't leave it well enough alone, so I thought I'd share a couple of the "mods" I did.

Here is a group shot, showing the bottle and accessories. I have two of the stainless cups. One of them fits over the Guyot, one doesn't!

First, I decided I wanted a bail so that I could hang the bottle over a fire if the need ever arose. I drilled a couple of holes in the wide flange below the threads. I attached some small split rings, and then used a braided stainless steel fishing leader with snap clips on each end. I left the swivel on one end to release any binding that might occur.

The bail stows out of the way wrapped around the flange.

I also used another stainless leader to replace the lid lanyard. This comes off easily by unclipping the snap clip.

Next, I wanted some kind of metal lid to aid in boiling water. I found the lids to a couple of small round tins that I have work just fine. One is small enough to sit inside the bottle's neck while the other is just big enough to sit outside the threads. Ultimately, I'll probably just use the lid off a can with slits cut in it to fit over the bail wire.

Finally, I couldn't resist buying a coffee filter that threads onto the neck of the bottle. I guess I could use it to prefilter water as well.

Here is a shot of everything nested.

Now I want to get out and get it dirty!

very clever and really nice set up. I really like how you got a coffee filter that fit so good. The hanging wire is a must have also.

Thanks for the insight.

I've got that exact same setup minus the little metal cap you found. Works like a charm. I think you'll be very happy with it all.

That coffee filter is worth its weight in gold on a cool morning at camp, and does actually work as a filter when boiling water to drink.

Where did you find the coffee filter?

Edit: Found it. The GSI H2jO? How does the plastic react to the hot steel?

Thanks guys.

Where did you find the coffee filter?

The coffee Filter is called H2JO and is made by GSI Outdoors. I've seen them at REI and Sportsman's Warehouse. It was $9.95.

Its always nice to have these steel leaders along for the ride, as they look like they are ready-made snares.

Definitely Pimped!
I love every addition you did, especially the additional steel leaders! And the prefilter! And the extra mug..! Sheesh, you should just sell your kit-idea to Guyot!!

I've been eying the Guyot Standard awhile now, having it on the 'medium-list', but seeing these mods, Guyot has moved right up into the shortlist! Can't wait til our fellow forum-member has'em back in stock

Impressive setup with some thoughtful engineering on your part. I thought I was doing good with my Kleen Kanteen. Looks like I have a bit of catching up to do. Haven't seen any Guyot bottles around my part of the world (we hangout at our local REI often).

:confused:CanDo, I've updated the pictures with copyright info. You can post them on your site.

Spooky, what is the link? :D

Flix, I like what you did to your bottle too. I don't care for the ugly black cap though; and wonder if there would be a way to secure that metal lid on in place of it? What's the metal lid from?

Tracker, The metal "lid" appears to be made of tin and just loosely fits. It is by no means a replacement for a watertight threadded cap.

Thanks Flix, I'll try and find one that fits like your picture. If Guyot put a metal cup like cap like a Thermos on it it would serve double duty IME.

very cool.

love the idea for the hanging wire/cap retention wire.

looks like a neat little setup.

yeee haw! Right with you there buddy! Love that lid, will have to check out one of my tins too. Splendid idea!

I've been wanting to drill a hole in that lid flange and put some wire through that and call i it a day, but this quick wire I job I did for a trip has lasted for a while now. Its 14 gauge wire and just some coathanger wire.
