Pimp My Guyot!

Looks great. I've been thinking along similar lines when (if) I ever get one.

One question:

So I finally scored a stainless bottle from Guyot this week after jonesing after Doc's & Kevin's for months.

Where did you get yours?

Joezilla, I thought about doing a rigid bail like yours but I didn't think I could bend the wire evenly enough to satisfy my obsessive/compulsive self. :o

Sharp Eye posted this link in another thread last week. http://www.bepreparedtosurvive.com/WaterContainers.htm They don't have a secure site so I ordered by telephone. The lady I talked to said I got the last one they had on hand. Rumor has it that Nalgene will be distributing the Guyot bottles starting next month so they should be more broadly available pretty soon.

twowolvesoutdoors has 'em too.

Don't worry about bending that bail, it will get all marred up later. I just bent it with long attachments around a spray can and then cut near the arc I wanted. wala! It stays pretty well too.

I filed down the sharp cuts so that it doesn't abrade my Po' hand anymore than needed. That steel leader material is the cats meow

Just a reminder - Guyot does not advocate using their bottles for boiling, and specifically warns users not to use the bottle for hot beverages. It is a single wall bottle after all, not a thermos.

I'm working on a similar kit. I have the Nalgene carrier with the big pocket, but I've seen a few others that look a little better.

How are you guys carrying this setup?

I just got an e-mail that mine is on the way. Gotta go get that cofee filter. Damn sweet addition IMO.

I cant wait till they are more available. I am being patient..... I am wantin one bad, and almost ordered a klean kanteen, but decided to wait on a guyot.

The stainless Guyot will fit in the Nalgene carrier, but it is too snug to do so with it nested in the stainless cup.

Who makes the mug that fits over the Guyot?

So I finally scored a stainless bottle from Guyot this week after jonesing after Doc's & Kevin's for months. Of course, I couldn't leave it well enough alone, so I thought I'd share a couple of the "mods" I did.

Here is a group shot, showing the bottle and accessories. I have two of the stainless cups. One of them fits over the Guyot, one doesn't!

First, I decided I wanted a bail so that I could hang the bottle over a fire if the need ever arose. I drilled a couple of holes in the wide flange below the threads. I attached some small split rings, and then used a braided stainless steel fishing leader with snap clips on each end. I left the swivel on one end to release any binding that might occur.

The bail stows out of the way wrapped around the flange.

I also used another stainless leader to replace the lid lanyard. This comes off easily by unclipping the snap clip.

Next, I wanted some kind of metal lid to aid in boiling water. I found the lids to a couple of small round tins that I have work just fine. One is small enough to sit inside the bottle's neck while the other is just big enough to sit outside the threads. Ultimately, I'll probably just use the lid off a can with slits cut in it to fit over the bail wire.

Finally, I couldn't resist buying a coffee filter that threads onto the neck of the bottle. I guess I could use it to prefilter water as well.

Here is a shot of everything nested.

Now I want to get out and get it dirty!

I have a Guyot bottle with 2 steel cups that fit it from GSI.

However my local Sportsman's Warehouse has about a half dozen of the bottles and a dozen GSI cups and none of them fit together.

bigox -

If the Sportsmen's Warehouse in your area has Guyot bottles right now BUY THEM! ALL OF THEM! Many people have been searching for months and would likely pay a premium to get their hands on one.

I stand corrected! I went back and found four GSI cups that fit the four Guyot bottles they had left and bought all four sets. It looks to me that the size of the cups varies a bit. Many don't fit but some do.

Bigox, Are you going to be putting those sets up for sale or trade here in the exchange forums? There sure are plenty of people looking for them.

FYI, you can add a Jetboil cup cozy to your Guyot bottle (and larger Klean Canteen). This will provide more comfort when handling cold and warm liquids. NOTE: Cozy will burn, so keep it away from fire!

Edit: Those are cool mods FLIX! Thanks for sharing!

I got mine yesterday! I ordered it directly from the guyot website.

I just received my coffee filter from REI...this will make an excellent prefilter for my Guyot. I've used regular paper coffee filters in the past and they suck! This is 10 times better and can be cleaned off as well (plust you can use them with Nalgene bottles as well).
