I'm really liking my Silver Alox Pioneer, but was thinking of getting a Black and Red one as well. Which color Pioneer do you have and what factored into your decision to own that color?

Red ROCKS!!!! (and ages beautifully)

Black and silver, and also because they're the only colors available at less than $26.00...every other color is selling for $170.00+; I wasn't born on the mid-watch.

New red Pioneers are available from Swiss Bianco Canada (a vendor here). I have one and they are very nice. New shield and polished tools...same high quality. They are higher than silver but if you want a new, in the box red Pioneer, they cost much, much less than a vintage model.

I would personally go with the black Pioneer. I think it looks the best and still looks the best after you get years of pocket wear on the thing. That is if we are just talking Black, Silver, Red.

I like the Red, but really like the looks of the Pioneer in Black. Maybe that should be next on my get-list. I can kill (2) birds with one stone on eBay. Someone has a combo pack of Black Pioneer and Black Cadet. I have both of those knives now, in Silver.

The black looks great. I have a silver Pioneer and a few Farmers including blue and red. I would by another Farmer (black) but I have to put the brakes on pocket knife purchases for a little while.

I like blue a lot. I don't know exactly why, I just like it. Red and black are nice too. It's great to see how those colored alox SAKs age.

I really like the looks of the red ones after years of pocket wear, but like others have mentioned, I ordered a black one because they are a little easier to find. Don't want to hijack the thread but could anyone post some pocket worn black ones on here as well?

I haven't seen nice weathered black ones posted anywhere. Maybe they are still too new to have developed that level of pocket wear?

This knife is probably 30-35 years old.

How long have the black ALOX Pioneers/Farmers been out?

Your probably right about the black ones being too new. Your red one looks perfect.

And you can have a new one of this older style for $130 here.

Or this one, that's also new old stock for $215.

I noticed here in the Netherlands that prices of SAKs are rising. A webshop where I bought a Farmer in 2009 for 23 euros, the same regular silver Farmer is now sold for 33 euros! Which is circa 45 US dollars.
