I've always been a cigar guy. I inherited these pipes from my grandpa after he passed a few years ago and I've been meaning to get some info on them. This seems like as good a place as any without joining a pipe forum.

Can anybody shed some light on them? Any and all marking are shown in the pics.

Yeah it's a Queen made Schatt & Morgan #69. Replicating a pattern from the 20's when they sold blades under the Dollar Knife Co. name.

They made 100 of them in 2003. I read on one source that the blade is D2 but I'd love for someone to confirm. It's also interesting that the tang is stamped Schatt & Morgan on the show side and Queen on the other.

It's very well made. Blade closes dead center, good snap with a flush spring and medium to heavy pull. Has a very smooth overall feel due to the high polish handles and just oozes class.

Sweet knife. Shows how good Queen is.

Per if it's D2 or not, I was told that if it is D2, it has a "P" on the tang for Peter's heat treat. They can't heat treat D2 in house. However, that's for normal Queens, not S&M or what looks like a SFO. Per S&M, I was told that if it is marked ATS34, it is, but if it is unmarked, it is 420HC (I think). That said, I have an unmarked S&M 2000 toothpick that was sold to me as ATS34 and there is no "official" information stating the pattern/year was made in anything but ATS34. Personally, I've never seen a S&M in D2 but that don't mean squat :)

Brownshoe, Queen's usually have PH-D2 on the tang, for Peter's Heat-treat D2, and usually the box says "Tool Steel" somewhere on it. I would be very surprised if the Dollar Knives were anything other than 420HC. The 2000 S&M Keystone knives have ATS-34 steel in the master blades only, and unmarked. Secondary blades are 420HC, so your 'pick should be ATS-34. Their F&W series knives were usually marked "ATS-34" opposite the model number on one of the blades, but all blades should be ATS-34.

Thanks for the info gents! I'm new to this scene and all the help is greatly appreciated.

Mamba, that's a beauty you have there!

As for the Dollar Knife, I originally thought it was 420HC but once I came across one source listing it as D2 I became curious. It has no tang markings other than the company names, so it must be 420.

Took this a week ago, just playing catch up. Here is the Missouri Trader in Natural Stag that Mike so graciously parted with, and an American Classic Blend Toro Alec Bradley. Very nice smoke for the $.
Take care all,
Josh

The awl/punch on the Pioneer/s and #66 HJ with the little "L" shape are the best at allowing you to savor the best part of the cigar:thumbup:
