For a person who is brand new to the pipe game ( and really enjoying it) what is a good pipe knife? Would a doctors knife make a good tamper or should I just use the cap lifter on my #15?

I used a pipe tool when I smoked a pipe. Much better than a knife blade.

I've not smoked for a number of years, but I still have my pipes.

I'm the same way Frank. Sometimes I'll take a break from pipe smoking for months or year or more, but whenever I feel like it I always have them if I feel like a smoke. I'd never get rid of them.

I gave up tobacco in 1991 but when I see all these beautiful pipes I can taste the blend I used to buy from my local tobacco shop.

This has turned out to be a pretty good thread. I stopped smoking years ago and have a couple/three pipes stashed somewhere in our storage shed. Maybe I'll have to dig em out for a pic later.

That's a nice pipe you have in your pic Frank. I've always liked that style.

My smoking hiatus has lasted longer than some of our traditional posters have been alive. I keep thinking one of these days I'm going to take it up again, so I've hung onto my pipes.

Thanks, Ed. There was a tobacconist out in the San Fernando valley a few decades ago who used to sell seconds. It was the only way I could afford a nice pipe in those days. If I took the shot from the top, you'd see that the bowl is slightly off center. Still a good smoking pipe, though.

I had a few Savinelli and Dunhill pipes, which were considered top-shelf pipes, but one of the best smoking pipes I had was an old drug store Kaywoodie pipe.
