Pistol squirrel hunt today

i got the same pistol without the optics,i have looked for a cool holster in leather the triple k are here but no thumb break..

Great post. I plan to do some squirrel hunting with my TC Contender 410 barrel.

I can only assume that you know that you have a piece of gold there?:D There is a lot of history with those barrels. Again, I assume you are talking about the .410 and not one of the hotshot barrels that came out after the ATF asked TC why they were selling sawed off shotguns. ;)

My squirrel hunting setup. It has yet to fire a shot at a squirrel though. :grumpy:

I have a Triple K and I wish it was a thumb break also but other than that it is a really nice holster. I had a scope for my TC barrel that I had mounted but right now I like using the iron sights. The target speaks volumes about the capabilities of the pistol. Best shooting, most natural pointing .22 handgun I have ever used and I have a Mark I from 25 years ago that shoots well also but not like this one. I had a S&W model 17 8 3/8" from 1980 that shot very well and I also had a piece of crap S&W model 317 I bought a couple of years ago that wouldn't shoot for anything and I traded it for this and what a good trade it was.

Congratulations on some very good shooting.

KR- Thats a great pistol you got there. Now you just gotta get out there and try it on some tree rats.

Yeah, the TC pistols are great. I have one of the newer .410 barrels and its not anywhere as good as the old ones that were smoothbore. Here's mine with its newest barrel, a .223
Here's a link to a you tube vid showing this pistol busting a clay at 300 yards

that the new mk3,or is it a oldie?

If you are asking about mine its a new one. I have had it for maybe several months now. Like I said, I bought it to replace a new S&W 317 kit gun that shot like absolute crap. It has been out "squirrel hunting" four times now. Haven't seen but one red squirrel in those four hunts and didn't want to take that shot because of the proximity to houses.

I really like the fluted barrel on yours md25v. Do you think it reduces the weight very much? I appreciate your skill in finding and taking those squirrels also.

I wish that it made more of a difference but the truth is it doesn't feel much lighter than my 7in MKII BBL. I think for a barrel that size the flutes are more cosmetic than anything else. Oh well, looks cool.

Here's another day, this one's from last year

I REALLY wish someone would make rimfire pistol in 17mkII. Thats the perfect squirrel round IMO. Its flat shooting and very devistating but doesn't blow them in half like the 17HMR.

Thats a nice looking setup you have there, and good shooting to man. I don't have a pistol as nice as that, but I do have an old FIE revolver I've had since I was 18. Well I say it's old it was new when I got it, we've both gotten older since then. I think a.22 pistol/revolver is a great way to take small game. I first started killed squirrels with mine when I'd take it as a backup for my 12 ga. I'd knock'em down with my shotgun if they were running and my revolver if they were being still trying to hide.

Any pistol you have that you take out and have fun with is as good as any other. I have a cheap Ruger single action .22 revolver that was only $300 new (and I got it used) that's actually my favorite. I take it out more often than any of my other .22 pistols.

actually these are split and drying right now, gonna make smoked jerky out of this group. I have a ton of venison right now so and I'm making some of that into stews and chili. I usually make squirrel stew but this season I've been partial to pan frying them wrapped in bacon.

squirrel jerky? how do you go about doing that? ive only killed and eaten squirrel once, and i was not impressed, kinda tasted like chicken...now that i think about it, probably because i cooked it with chicken.

here's a good squirrel recipe much like the one I use, the only difference is I don't use milk and I do use about a teaspoon of lemon juice that i put in with the onion just before covering and simmering for 30 - 45 mins. I really like it for old tough squirrels. The meat just falls off the bone. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/martin/wildrecipes/wgrsq6.htm

One day several of us took our 22 pistols to the river for some shooting. It was flooded and there were a lot of moving targets to shoot at. We passed the guns around. Out of them all, the Ruger revolver performed best for me, by a landslide.

squirrel jerky? how do you go about doing that?

Make a lattice rack out of green sticks about 2ft wide by 3 ft tall (total of 9 squirrels from three days).
Make a fire. SMALL, low heat! You don't want to cook the meat.
Put a punky log over the fire so that all you have is a lot of smoke.
Stand the lattice rack over the smoke like a lean-to.
Place the cleaned squirrels on the rack and hold them open with small sticks.
Let them dry for 6-8 hours being bathed by the smoke.
Don't let the meat start to cook. Spoiled cooked meat will make you very sick.
When the squirrels have shriveled a bit and are about 3/4 the size they started you have jerky.
All you want to do is remove the moisture from the muscle tissue by drying the meat in the sun.

Maybe I should do a tutorial?

It's a 410/45Colt barrel. I've had it probably 15 years. It has a screw in choke. The barrel is rifled.
