You sold your niece???? :p

Father and son about 3 months ago you should see the pup now

Glad to see how the pup grew up. Looks great  Let me know if you ever decide to breed it and give one away :p

Also, glad to see your involving your family with hunting. It's always good to see (and the deer isn't bad either :foot:)

I have a big love for Pitbulls.

This is my little girl Dixie.

For you guys that have Dogos, what sort of environment would you recommend for the dog. How much exercise/stimulation does it need?

Most Dogo's in America are show stock and fairly low drive.
Others are from Argentina hunting stock and have more drive and will need more stimulation, training and excersize.
The one I had could have lived in an apartment without problem and I did sell him to a family with small children and he was fine.
Low aggression toward humans and animals.Basically what you would have with a Pitbull Great Dane hybrid which is what most of the dominate genes are.
Pure hunting blood Dogos will be more like Catch dog blood Pits and American bulldogs.
Just like Pits you have PITbulls and PETbulls. Ask your breeder and look at the pedigrees and parents to see what you're getting.
JP's look exceptional,I'd like to know what bloodline they are myself.

He told me what bloodline they were from once...forget what he said. Hopefully he will chime back in and say. They are beautiful

Meet Bernie.

AmStaff and we think Lab mix. He's fiercely protective and takes his own time to get to know you. Weighs upwords of 110 pounds so most folks think twice before extending their hands to pet him. (And they usually think better of it once they look him in the eye......)

Can't sit straight but he's a pretty happy camper overall.

Good to see some other folks that are into the "bully" breeds. I have had quite a few PBs over the years. Colby, Eli, Boudreaux (I have been on the old mans yard and purchased a dog from him) Jeep, and a firecracker little 40lb Nigerino (as well as a few crosses from here and there). All were tremendous dogs. Loving, loyal and wonderful companions. Most of these dogs were owned while I was stationed in Louisiana- that state has some of the best dogs to be found.

Thanks for all the information. They look like great dogs.

I'll play. Here's my boy Madden. Here's a pit/coon hound mix. Great dog. My wife was a little leary when I brought him home, but he's now her baby. He's about 5 months.

Is there something anatomically unique to the pitbull's jaw apparatus that makes it more efficient at a certain non-eating task, or, is that hysteria/propaganda?

Pardon my ignorance on dogs.

Thanks.

It's not the jaws it's the brain.
Historically dogs bred to fight bulls and catch boar couldn't let go of the bite and be worth keeping.Selective breeding for hunting and fighting created an animal that's will to win is stronger then the will to survive that all wild animals have.

Pet-bulls are no different then any other dog.
Considering you can lose ability in one generation most American Pit-Bull Terriers should be considered Pet-Bulls and not PIT-bulls which are performance dogs bred for the fighting pit.

Working German Shepherds in America are in a similar boat.
The vast majority are un-suitable for work these days and the ones that are come from specific European bloodlines.
No American show line GSD are suitable for police work yet if you go to Hungry or Slovakia many are suitable for work.
Performance is lost quickly when breeding for pet qualities without standardized tests for ability and health.
Belgian Malinois never got popular as pets like GSD and have kept their working ability because for the most part in the last 200 years only Ring and KNPV competitors bred them for sport and police work.
Why they are the dominate breed in the majorities of armies.

They do have strong jaw muscles, but like InfidelShootist said it's brain that makes them fight and keep fighting. Even over-riding the deeply ingrained self-preservation factor all creatures possess.
Any dog irregardless of breed will take hold with it's bite and grip. Pit Bulls have this and all other aspects of canine fighting traits, selectively intensified through breeding. Pits can and will release a grip when fighting. They generally won't turn loose unless it's to get a better grip. The only thing locking the jaws is the dog wanting to hold.
They were developed by fighting and breeding the successful only, no attention was paid to anything other than what works in the fight ring.
A performance bred dog is one that comes from a line of tested and selectively bred dogs. They can be hunting dogs (coonhounds, bird dogs, etc.) working/guard dogs (Malinois, Rottweiler, etc.) herding and flock guardian (Border Collie, Great Pyrenees, etc.) and fighting dogs. (Pit Bull, Japanese Tosa)
While most breeds do indeed have their beginning development rooted in man's needs at a particular point in history. Today, very few continue to be bred based on performance .
Originally, Pit Bulls were not seen outside the dog fighter circles as pets nearly so much as they are today. So you are getting more and more Pits bred just because they are purebred dogs and not because they won in a fight-ring. It's the same with many breeds and it's said the worst thing for a breeds quality is becoming overly popular with the public.

he looks upset!

all jokes aside avoid being bit by pits at all costs! i was playing with my dog and he tried to bite the towel i kept throwing over his head and ended up bitting my nipple.

after he realized he bit me he wimpered and sat at my feet until i pet him but the damage had already been done. my favorite shirt was ruined and my nipple still hurts (about a month ago)

You just made me laugh soooooo hard!

Mine has caught me good once of twice while while playing and he immediately knows if he screwed up.

He gets this "I didnt mean it! I didnt mean it! sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry" look on his face.
