Pit's Bear Essentials !!!!

NIce shots Pitdog, its not often you get a chance to get that close

Not that uncommon here in BC, week before last my wife an kids were in a similiar situation up by Cache Creek.

I haven't looked at the stats lately, but if memory serves me there are around 100,000 black bears in BC

Man, thats sweet. I've never come across a bear in the wild. I've tried, but they're pretty rare here in GA. They do have a bear population in the Chattahoochee Nat'l Forest where we go camping. But I've never seen one while we were there.

That bear looks like 150 lbs and 1.5 years old .It would be on it's own for the first time .Just like the one I photographed on my lawn a couple of weeks ago.Black bear populations in the USA and Canada are doing very well. PA doen't want more than about 10,000 so they take about 3,000 per year. BTW they've usually ignored me !!

Nah, that was the day before !!!:D

OT.... have you seen the commercial where sasquatc is starting the fire with flint and steel, and the dudes put it out right after he finally got it lit? Too funny. My wife said thats how I would react too:o

Ha, Ha, Ha.......very funny, NOT !!!!

Actually I was only armed with my little SwampWarden !!!

Mrs Pit made me take my BlackJack Grunt when we walked around other places, I will post more pics on another thread !

regardless --- either one of them would have likely just pissed off that cute little bear :p

Most likely !!!

However out of all my knives either the Blackjack Grunt or my ChopWeiler are the ones that I would most want to use in that situation !!!!!

Ya gotta come up here to Canuckia. My wife and I motorcycle tour all through the Rockies and foothills -- We almost always see some Black Bears.

Have even seen a Grizzly a time or two -- that gets the heart pumping.
Once on a mountain bike we tripped on a Grizzly about 30 yards away or so -- it looked at us and we looked at him and he grunted and went on his way. It was definitely a rush!!!

We're also stupid enough to stop and watch the blacks on our bikes and they seem pretty content just to ignore us and keep eating the dandelions stc in the ditch -- needless to say I'm a pussy and we leave the bikes idling in gear :D
