Plans for 50th Anniversary Folding Hunter?

"Personally, I'd like an EXACT copy of the 1st/1st 110, right down to the thinner blade."

I vote for that, but using newer technology to make it a little more durable. I can't think of a better tribute to a great design.

Bert
I agree!

I like the idea of a 1st ver. Look alike, ie Macassar ebony, 2 tiny pins, thinner and lighter. But I doubt 440C would be an option.I would prefer 440C, but considering current trends I would be happy with S30V as this seems to be the best of
what is currently offered. The blade should mimmick the original profile. Perhaps a hidden steel rocker pin with brass pins showing where the rocker pin lies. And of couse a blade pin bushing. I would shell out 150 easy, perhaps even 200 for
one. Perhaps make 50 serialized out of sterling at a PREMIUM$$$

Put it in a U.S.A. made presentation box made from the same wood as the scales, and I'd have no problem parting with $350 to $400.

Why cut corners? For me, if it's not an original copy or something over the top, what's the sense? There's certainly no shortage of semi-custom 110s out there to be had already. I'd go five to six bills for one with a solid sterling silver frame.
more thought
yes a look alike first year.. it would haven to have the round spring as the intergral was too fragale
was reason they went away from it
it dont need a blade bearing but how would we know..
it would need a straight back and lock bar..
and thiner brass and blade ...
and yes if it was a look alike i guess i could spring for 250+

for the solid stearling silver.. yes i could spring for half a grand
i jest did for a one off damascus twin blade.. so why not silver..
hell i got 20 oz of pure silver i would donate for two prototypes
but would want one for the donations to work on them! :D:D

the more it cost the less they will sell ...
but they did solid sterling once before ...
hee hee any one know that story?
any one ever seen one?

as to a book .. well have been working on one about the 110 off and on
trying to get much imput but some i talk to say off the record
so much of what i dont know i cant say of
i may jest may contact all again and ask for on the record information
and tell them it dont have to be 100% jest colse as they recall will do

reality most the stroy can be found here
{that is if it is not deleated}
and one only has to look at the knives to see most the story
some of the story some dont want known
'such as they could not put out a john wain knife as wains two familys
cant agree on designs or titles
the only one was the one by franklin mint and buck
some how they had permision for that already from a preavious agreement

the devlopement of a knife is a long process
the protype B&C designes were shown to me by a vp at buck during the 25 shindig
they come out 2 years or more later..

no it is NOT to soon to say on what you think a 50 th could be
and gee why not two
one for the public like the repo of the first
and one for the club like the silver idea
yep me thinks it a good idea
two diffrent knives for two diff markets.

As for the ricasso stamp, 103 would be nice; since that's what the 110 originally debuted as.
An exact copy of the box, paperwork, and sheath would also be nice.

What he said.
  • 440C.
  • Original grind with thickened blade right behind the edge. (Cause 440C was considered brittle and prone to chipping.)
  • Wood handle.

The works.

I like the idea of a look-alike, but not an exact copy. Go ahead with S30V and I'll still plug my idea of Silicon Bronze bolsters. For scales...fossil wood, to symbolize a timeless quality.

It would be like purchasing a 1964 Coupe de Ville with 7,500 original miles with the original AM radio ripped out and replaced with a CD player and iPod connection.

Hmmmmm.......But I NEEDS my STEREO!!!!

:D

Actually, a lot of people here WOULD rip that old AM radio out. No doubt. Want to take her for a spin now and then and have good tunes.

And, while I wouldn't use the replica 1st/1st 110, that's not my main concern. I would want a knife that I COULD use--a knife with any weak parts upgraded to the BEST parts.

But, I can also see the logic in having an EXACT replica of the very first 110.....even with its (arguably rather minor) known imperfections.

This is not hard to solve.......Buck can do BOTH. Make an exact replica limited edition and also make a "Classic" model upgraded with new parts and keep in on as a part of the regular 110 line at the $125 to $150 range.

It's only the greatest knife company in the world, so what could stop them?????

I can easily see happy endings for all involved.

:)

A steel that wasn't around then, such as 154 CM, CPM S30V, BG-42, etc., would be an instant deal-breaker for me.

The difference is of course, that we are not talking about modifying an original but making a replica, or with my suggestion, a new model based on the design of the original using special materials for a commemorative production.

You can buy modern DVD players in vintage looking 45rpm or early radio cabinets.

BG 42 is correct, we could have the best of both worlds: one of each.

well .. yes and exat copy ... wow much harder to set up to do but
as buck 110 said ... authenticy charms some hearts

the more i think of it
the more i like the silver handles...
as i said they did this once for a high dollor customer
full sterling frame

heck i would settel for sterling inlays on brass even!!
of course with
ss damascus blade
gee sure would like to know how the powers that be feel about
our diffrent ideas
kinda stear us in the directions that is most likely...
and could be
we might have an effect
wish i could get also some imput from
the powers that be in the bcci
as to what they might order for the knife of the club in
2013

come on give us a clue
we are dieing here !!!
we need any news at all!!!

Since it's a SILVER anniversary........

The theme should be silver......maybe all normal models for "Year 50" could have Nickel bolsters with just some special editions using the traditional brass.

GOT to have a 440C "Throwback" model with Macassar Ebony and brass, though.....that's for sure.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I'm pretty sure 50th anniversary is gold - this knife might get expensive :D

Well, smack me on the forehead!!!

LOL!

Thanks for straightening me out. My wife will affirm that I am useless when it comes to anniversaries.

BACK TO THE PRECIOUS METAL DRAWING BOARD!

It's GOLD, guys.

Sorry.

Glad I'm probably too old to be around for the 75th.......I think that's DIAMONDS--and I won't have that much money.

:)

Wouldn't have to be real diamonds. A diamond engraved on the bolster could be sweet.

Exact Copy.... No

Can't be exact, or even close enough to where a novice couldn't tell difference.

I can just see big bold print on ebay. " ORIGINAL BUCK 110" Rare Vintage Mint, and all the other flowery words.

Value of the "originals" might go downhill faster than a landslide at a pig farm.

So, a close commerative, just not exact. I don't think Buck would do exact.

I saw the question asked on Buck's Facebook page yesterday about suggestions for a 50th anniversary 110 and it made me remember this thread.

The things I would like to see.....a LE box, two small handle pins and upgraded steel with a "Buck" only horizonal stamp on the right side of the blade just like the first version.

Haven't decided on the handle material because I don't know much about the different woods and the restrictions on some of those woods now. I also haven't decided if I would like gold etching on the blade, although I think it would almost need something to commemorate the history of such a great knife.
