Hey HOGS. Well I am thinking of getting a new sheath for my NO-E. I currently have a Kydex but forget who the maker is.

Anyway... What do you prefer on your knives and why. And most importantly...Please feel free to post pics and recommendations. I know most of our resident makers here but perhaps have not seen their NO-E models.

I think for the most part I am looking for something compact. I'm not too worried about water exposure as I am mostly on dry land. Post'em if ya got'em please.

Thanks.

i like kydex for it's versatility of carry options. that can be done with leather but takes more work. also leather is more expensive

Well, that depends on the knife... A beater that'll get dirty often when you're out in the "field"? I'd say kydex, 'cause you can sheath it and not care... you can wash out kydex as often as needed and the knife's gonna get scratched up with use anyway.
Satin & D/C users that don't get so dirty with their everyday tasks (like the typical urban EDC type), I gotta say leather. The downside is they aren't so easy to clean inside...

Or... :D One of each!

Funny, I don't have a lot of pix pf my knives with the sheaths in them... Then again, I don't have a lot of sheaths... :o I gotta do something about that!

I do have a pic of a Chuddy Bear sheath for my Chopweiler & Rat Warden...

Forgot to add... Didn't know which way to vote... I could go either way. How's about "3.) Either will do!" lolz

um, why isn't there a canvas option? also, pleather is way under-rated :p

I actually like the canvas and rubber sheath that came with the cs finn wolf, though I abhor the puukko style grab the tip of the handle style sheath. makes it impossible to draw the knife in a ready position.

but yes, I voted kydex. I still like leather for belts though, always hated fabric/nylon webbing.

Good to hear from ya Tyrkon.

leather looks nicer for the most part. But with my Kydex I don't care if it gets wet, or dropped in the snow, or put away with mud etc on it.

That is a nice set up Jaxx!

I think leather is nicely suited for satin blades. Love that Kydex though.

I'm a leather fan myself, but then again I mostly shoot revolvers and lever rifles, lol.

Kydex always scratches the blade, best for a user. If you want to keep the knife looking good, go with leather. You can't beat a well made leather sheath.

I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. Kydex does NOT always scratch the blade. While I like leather and natural materials I prefer synthetics on my knives.
I prefer Mashed Cat nowadays and Eric makes a killer fit. I just wish I could find a Dundee Rig in plastic and canvas.

leather all the way

When things get tough you can eat a leather sheath but kydex tastes awful.:)

I think Jaxx summed it up best.

I never want to shove a dirty knife into a leather sheath...
You'll never get the dirt outta there.
With Kydex, no worries... you can easily clean it out.

But I do love the look and feel of leather.

.

Plastics have their place, but the look, feel and smell of leather go hand in hand with fine cutlery. I like the feel of good sheath leather on my leather belt. It rides and shapes itself to my body and leather breaths.

Like Jaxx said for hard use knives kydex is fine but nothing looks and carries like leather

Kydex for versatility in cleaning out.

Leather does look good, plus it means there are more steaks & hamburgers on the market...

Excellent point regarding the ease of cleaning with kydex. My knives are all users so I am not concerned about scratches. But good point nonetheless.

Kydex is neat-o :D

ANd some kydex can be a fancy as leather, & this one guy even tooled some kydex :D

That tooled kydex is pretty slick Dave!!!

Love the HOG tooling... that's really cool!

Thanks for posting those. :)

I like Both But I have a lot more Kydex than Leather.

No one mentions weight.

For the most part I think kydex is lighter.

Most of my Leather Sheaths are pouch type.

I do have Leather for all sizes from SHBM on down to the Bear Cub.

While I am more likely to get Custom Kydex, I can not keep my self from Leather from time to time.

My Wife say's "Of course that might just be the Whole " Smell of the Leather, Sting of the Whip" Thing.

Edited to add:

Kydex sheaths tend to be more secure(not lose knife) than my Pouch type Leather Sheaths.

But I have seen lots of very secure Leather sheaths.
