Living in the Pacific NW, I think I like the Kydex a lot more. Leather and Rain just don't seem to mix so well.

IMHO,,,,,,, for what thats worth,,,,,,always liked leather better,,,,,, coated blades in Kydex, Satin in leather. Kydex is more easily cleaned as many have stated above. So , basically we need 2 sheaths for most blades, depending upon what the days usage is going to be. I personally prefer the leather,,,,and I always clean my blades thoroughly after a good use, BEFORE shoving them back into the sheath, cuz once you get some crap in leather it's a total bitch getting it back out.

Leather for me.:)
I HATE those Kydex scatches. I want MY scratches to be from chopping.

I think both are great. If you're not doing it yourself, I'd say go for leather. They're probably not that hard to DIY either but my Kydex experiments have gone well enough. The only time I'd worry about leather would be in a extremely wet environment. Okuden kydex on a rough user probably can't be beat but I like the ease in which a leather sheath can be a drop loop where as a kydex sheath has to have nylon webbing attached (generally) to drop down to a lower carry position.

I voted kydex for your user:)

You need a tough sheath to withstand the hardships of a "Tyrkon" knife!

Kydex is neat-o :D

ANd some kydex can be a fancy as leather, & this one guy even tooled some kydex :D

That's very nice. I've actually been playing around with the possibility of tooling and chemically etching Kydex over the weekend. I remember someone posting some tooled Kydex a couple years ago that was amazing, but I can't find it now.

Looks like you originally planned to use stitching?

Well, that depends on the knife... A beater that'll get dirty often when you're out in the "field"? I'd say kydex, 'cause you can sheath it and not care... you can wash out kydex as often as needed and the knife's gonna get scratched up with use anyway.
Satin & D/C users that don't get so dirty with their everyday tasks (like the typical urban EDC type), I gotta say leather. The downside is they aren't so easy to clean inside...

Or... :D One of each!

Funny, I don't have a lot of pix pf my knives with the sheaths in them... Then again, I don't have a lot of sheaths... :o I gotta do something about that!

I do have a pic of a Chuddy Bear sheath for my Chopweiler & Rat Warden...

Forgot to add... Didn't know which way to vote... I could go either way. How's about "3.) Either will do!" lolz

Nice set up Jaxx!

Tyrkon, Go with Leather since you already have Kydex.

Kydex is nice, and Dave B.'s is out of this world. Having said that I get an instant high off smelling a new leather sheath, skin it baby!!

Good to see leather winning out. I've got some nice Kydex, but there's something about leather and steel. Like a 1911 or a HP. (Strangely, I carry a Glock - and exclusively plastic holsters for it. ROTFL!)

And I carry my Glock too but in leather (when I can legally carry it that is). :D

Armoralleather did up a grey snakeskin inlay for me a few years back.
It's definitely worth any extra charges to get that inlay. Sweet!

Go for the Moo-dex. :D

Kydex for me. Mostly because it I can make em myself. I like the durability and lighter comparative weight. The money I save helps fund my 'infi'ection. But it has no soul.

Leather has soul, class and beauty. There is nothing like the smell of leather.

One day I'll attempt leather work... but for now it is plastic pants for me.

I think it depends on the knife...but I carry leather more often.

I'd agree. I just feel the knife better in leather sheath, but even that depends on the size of the knife and she sheath, just got to go by the feel of it
