So we were wandering down the street of tourist shops in Lahaina, Maui last spring when we happened upon Lahaina Scrimshaw. A couple hours later we walked out a little poorer but a lot happier about having done the tourist thing in Lahaina. They have a large selection (price and quality) of scrimshaw knives to gawk at. You are of course paying for the artists, whose skill and commensurate prices also varies, and if you want that one made from Mammoth ivory, well, you're going to pay for it. They have a website, http://www.lahainascrimshaw.com/ but it is just a tiny sample of the goods, and anyway there are some laws about whale products not sellable interstate.
If you are planning on that trip to Maui, or are already there and get tired of watching the whales off Napili Bay (or snorkelling above a sea turtle there as big as your wife), I highly recommend a soul satisfying stop at this store in old Lahaina town.

Anyone else have some well-located knife shops to recommend?

Your wife is as big as a sea turtle?

She better quit sitting around watching whales and get out and do a little snorkeling!

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

Sounds like the kind of place I wish we had around here.
Do they carry anything with tourist-friendly prices?

If you ever get to New York City, there are some knife businesses,
and then there is Mastersmiths. It's owned by Bill Malloy.
