Please be careful

Why not just implement the requirement that pictures need to have the seller's name and date in the picture? It would cut down on the number of scams significantly.
I cannot legislate rules without Spark's approval. For the most part my requests have been approved over the years, and I've written a lot of the guidelines, but it's a time consuming process.

You can make suggestions in Service & Support and, of course, you are always free to ask for them if you are interested in what a seller is listing.

I'm not blowing you off, but it's not as simple as you may think to affect site-wide changes of rules and guidelines. And Spark is generally disinclined to make more and more restrictions in the Exchange unless absolutely necessary.

Once again, thanks to all for your tips and comments.

Lorien,

Thank you for your kind and generous offer. Unfortunately, I have to pass. I am going to be out of work for the next month to focus on my Family and can not afford to spend any more. Talk about terrible timing. I still need to sell a knife locally to recover the $250. I appreciate your kindness and hope all is well with you and yours.

Btw, your designs with CPK are amazing. The DEK-1 looks like it would make the perfect EDC.👍

I totally get it- my situation has largely been the same as yours over the years. Which is one of the reasons I empathize with your plight. It's tough being consumed by a love for knives and not have the means to get what you want when you want it. And then to be hoodwinked when you think you've found what you're looking for at a price you can afford- it just sucks.
If I'm being honest, this kind of bullshit does not reflect well on Bladeforums. I don't have an answer to a problem which seems to be more commonplace everywhere, but all I can say is I'd rather extend a victim a kindness then to blame them for their misfortune. Especially someone who's been involved with the forum since almost the beginning.

I wish you the best, and don't be a stranger around here 👊

I had something to say to you in private that might help, as I had something similar happen with Paypal;however, you don't accept PM's.

I think a good safety guard for paypal FF and Zelle payments would be a photo of the sellers username/date written on a piece of paper next to the knife.

This wouldn't be difficult to implement.
That was what I started requesting on eBay, many years ago, after being scammed. Any excuses = pass on the item.

Not a problem. I've only made a handful of purchases off the Exchange since I usually only buy new knives.

Just noticing with the influx of hacked accounts and scams, it seems to be an easy fix. I know that other places require a pictures of photos with the seller's name. I'll throw this suggestion up in the appropriate section.

Seems like it would save a lot of trouble for the mods to not have to police these scammers.

Criminals are like cockroaches...no matter what you do to eradicate them, they find a way to survive. No different here. (Unfortunately.)

One solution...

Let's start this week off with a feel-good, heart warming piece of information;

An anonymous member of this forum has, in a show of pure generosity and empathy, offered to Pay it Forward and purchase the UF2 that I made available to tatsu tatsu , for him.

There isn't much more to be said about this- the facts speak for themselves and reinforce my personal feeling that the CPK subbie has one of the highest concentrations of quality individuals in any of Bladeforums subbies.

I'm proud to be affiliated with this forum, and all ya'll. The quality and the humanity shown in here every day is due mainly to the quality and humanity of our main man, Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist in creating this environment.

The knife will go into the mail this week, after I clean it up.

Let's make this a week where we all try and do something nice for someone we don't know! We can make our world a better place, bit by bit, action by action!

Have a great week, ya'll CPKers!

You guys are amazing! I am so thankful for the kindness and generosity shown here. After 24 years here on BF, this scam hit me hard. It cast a shadow over the place I come to relax, enjoy and wind down.

Getting this news from Lorien really helped me to see that even though there are scumbags out there stealing from people, there are good guys ready and willing to step up to help make things right.

Lorien and Anonymous,

Thank you so much. You both have reminded me how awesome this community is and how proud I am to be a part of it.

On a related theme, good citizenship, but not financial assistance...

Last night a member of BF ended up getting banned for repeated infractions in the Exchange. It's not like he didn't know he's been doing it, he's been a problem child for a while...and there has also been a question raised about his integrity...which doesn't need going into here at this time.

When the most recent infraction was imposed, unbeknownst to staff, it put that member over the limit and into "banned" territory.

What we didn't know at the time was that this individual had received a full refund from someone to whom he needed to return a knife. And that member was now in danger of not getting his property returned.

To cut to the chase...over a period of several hours last night, another member, Rollercoaster Rollercoaster , with no incentive other than to be helpful and a great forum member, spent a good deal of his Sunday night assisting me with putting the now banned member, (whom he had seen a message from on social media), in touch with the other member owed the knife, whom I was able to track down via Exchange activity.

To say it was both complicated and a cluster would be to put it lightly, but the main point is that without the assistance that Rollercoaster Rollercoaster provided to me, and on his own initiative, this matter would not have come to nearly as expeditious a conclusion as it did...and yet still took more hours than anyone might have predicted.

Here's to you, Rollercoaster Rollercoaster , I owe you more than a few cold ones. You are the kind of member that makes the often thankless job of being a mod worthwhile.
