I understand why it was discontinued. There were too many complaints and returns to the shop because of tooling marks and rusting decarb. That being said, there is a very large percentage of the Busse fans and frequent customers that would love and prefer to have competition finish as an option again. I believe that if it was offered with a disclaimer about tooling marks and rust, then customers could make an educated decision about buying coated vs. Competition.

Please, Jerry, bring back Competition Finish! Who's with me?

I'd be happy with that or a Cerekote option. Coatings for me are just going to get stripped and sent off to be cerekoted

Sign me up...my favorite finish...

I'm going out on a limb here and betting NO ONE on BF WOULD BE AGAINST Busse bringing back the Comp. Finish

OTOH, I understand it was a business decision & I don't want Jerry ( or a legit buyer/user ) to have to subsidize someone else's buyer's remorse & lack of judgment.

I'm in... Though that'll mean I won't be going out buying strippers...

I feel like I remember a thread saying they had too many problems with it,, and had no plans on bringing it back,,, at work so can't dig for it now

I really miss comp finish. I would like to see it come back with some sort of disclaimer so people do not confuse it for a flawed finish, I believe that is why it was cancelled.

Thought they'd worked that out by processing the blank short of B.I.G. SF and much less than satin finish. Extra work for no extra $ . I can see not offering it if its another 'NO no-choil option as too few order it'. Again, if they were to make it an "upgrade" and charge extra $, perhaps it might be a 'go' (except for the backlog at the Custom Shop if thats where they do their optional extras).

I'm totally there. It could be limited to bladeforum members. It saved so much time and is so much money. Decarb infi still beats coated Sr101 battle grade offerings, all day, everyday. Convex razor sharp working edges. I'm drooling just typing this. Oh please, Jerry please.

They offerred comp finish for the 2014 SOB's I thought or maybe that was the year before, but it seemed like they were very well received then. I still have mine and wish I could have had my TGLB in comp as well. I don't like stripping the factory finish, so I usually pass on stuff with the coated blade options, it just isn't appealing on a blade at this price point for me. I understand it's economical and more practical though.

I'll be buying ALOT more frequently if this ever becomes an option, either that or double cut are my go to choices...

It would save me a hell of a lot of elbow grease. Or make the BIG finish a standard option

Competition and Satin Finish, I'd like to see both again.

My favourite is the CF Sarsquatch.

I had a comp finish TGLB and loved it. That being said I am currently digging the BIG finish stuff. Satin is too pretty for a user in my opinion and as soon as you sheath it it scratches. I'd actually be fine with a no coating at all option.

Ah here it is...

The Competition Finish was meant to be just what it said it was, a "competition grade finish".

It was not supposed to be "pretty" or "perfect" and although I believe we had made that quite clear, there seemed to be way too much confusion.

We received so many returns for machine marks and other marks left behind during the production process that the added time in refinishing the blades to meet the customer's expectations made it way too costly to continue.

Hope that helps,

Jerry :D

The competition finish on the sob's is awesome and I haven't heard of any issues at all. I'm hoping that eventually we'll get to see it offered more.

Having said that, there were still a few who were unhappy. They complained about large dimples and wavy machining in certain places. I believe that's why it hasn't been offered since. We're all here together and somewhat like minded but it only takes a few to make it too much trouble for the Busse Crew to deal with.

I'll join the petition. Comp finish with a disclaimer that it can't be returned for cosmetic reasons sounds reasonable.

For those that cherish the beauty of Competition finish there are those in the secondary market that have less appreciation. The lifetime warranty add to the problem when a Comp blade is sold and the new owner is not happy with the finish for the money spent and sends it in for repair. Those wishing to save a buck were the ones most disappointed not those familiar with the INFI DIMPLE BEAUTY!!!!!
