Please bring back Competition Finish!

For those who say satin is to pretty to use, I would beg to differ-satin is how a knife is suppose to look! The coating no longer bothers me, and I understand Totally why Busse quit offering the Comp finish. I would seriously doubt it will offered again, Pay for the extra work and craftsmanship of Satin, or buy a coated knife and strip it if you are so inclined-The end of the competition finish was caused by those who bought it and did not understand the difference between a satin finish and the Comp Finish, and the labor involved in completing a Satin Finish-In my opinion the Busse line of coated blades are a bargain compared to other makers knives which have a satin appearance. If Busse were to bring back the Comp finish I to would gladly pay more, however if the difference in Comp Finish vs satin is under say a hundred bucks, I will take Satin all day everyday!

I love the comp finish. If they do not offer it again on the website at least it is something to look forward to at shows.

I say no. Leave comp finish in the dust where it belongs. ...

.......

Has reverse sykology worked yet?

I really really DONT WANT COMP FINISH........

They offerred comp finish for the 2014 SOB's I thought or maybe that was the year before, but it seemed like they were very well received then. I still have mine and wish I could have had my TGLB in comp as well. I don't like stripping the factory finish, so I usually pass on stuff with the coated blade options, it just isn't appealing on a blade at this price point for me. I understand it's economical and more practical though.

I'll be buying ALOT more frequently if this ever becomes an option, either that or double cut are my go to choices...

They said comp finish would be offered at shows from time to time.

I will go double thumbs up for comp finish

I never really identified with coated blades, so I have been sitting out of the recent offerings (was forced to branch out and pick up a nice Murray Carter Whitecrane). The thing is, all coated blades are basically just competition underneath, so I have never understood why any blade offered in coated form can not be ordered "pre-coating" i.e. competition. It must cost Busse something to coat them, so if I am willing to pay the same price for an uncoated version they should come out ahead.

I would like to see it as a blade option just like the coating colors. If it means a price difference then so be it. If people are willing to pay for something, it could be worth their time. It is just a matter of it being a viable business decision, not one that costs money, time and excess effort. I would even like to see uncoated or raw as a blade option, yes I understand that there would be a disclaimer on rust, tooling marks, all else that goes with a raw blade. just my two cents.

It would definitely save us a lot of work. I can see how some people would be put off by the tooling marks left in a $400 Busse when a dang Buck under the glass at a local sporting goods store knife comes with a flawless finish.

I'm good with coating. I get gray or sage, use it like I rented it, and when the coating gets worn away enough, I'll strip it. It's not a big deal to me. If it saves me a hundred bucks to get coated and out the elbow grease into stripping it myself, that's what I'll do. I look forward to wearing the finish off my TG-M and BAe.

There was a price difference Comp was less money... it was by its nature raw finish which was ok for some but those that did not understand that saving money meant an ugly unfinished look... they sent them in for warranty which was presenting lost time to the company and so the Comp Finish was dropped. I say we move on and let the "BIG" finish take over for the COMP finish.

Don't think we'll see much more Comp Finish other than shows...

I'd REALLY like to see more B.I.G. finish knives!
There hasn't been any further offerings since a few Ganzaaa's ago, and I only managed to score one.

Come on Bossman! How's about some more B.I.G. knives?!!???!??

Whether we like it or not, it seems the Competition Finish question has already been answered, so why don't we concentrate on lobbying for more use of the BIG that was supposed to replace it?

The BIG finish is great. No paint or too-pretty satin to scratch up. Just rough and ready to use shiny INFI goodness.

Totally agree it's a step up from Competition but less work in finishing than Satin at a Nice Price Point.

Heck, can't we have it as an informed option just like the coating color? It saves the shop time and effort, and it keeps us from having to strip that effort right back off the blades.... Just saying...

Jerry explained how it didn't save the shop money because people returned their purchase under warranty to clean up the Competition Finish. I have a few Competition Finish models and wanted a few others and have met with resistance when asking for the option.... Bottom Line you will have to find them at shows or on the secondary market and good luck... I know its sad that so many were returned that it ultimately killed the option...:(

And the BIG finish has no fugly de-carb to rust and upset those that won't accept that compromise between coated and satin.

They're not going to give us the option for BIG finish on everything, because it takes more finishing time in the shop. The whole goal of competition finish is less processing time in the shop and a rough blade finish that many of us love. There just needs to be a disclaimer and a couple photos of what comp finish looks like on Busse's "blade finishes" page.

Hopefully the shop will start offering it as a regular option:

I'll pay the additional $$$ for the B.I.G. Finish.

Would think that DCBB would be the easiest, quickest and cheapest finish to put on a blade. Once I strip mine it only takes a minute or two in the blasting cabinet to do and it would be even faster if the scales weren't on.
