Please critique my budding folding knife collection

Of course I buy what I like, but I also wanted to build a good collection. That meant getting certain knives because they are "must-haves" for a collection.

Nonsense. there is no such thing as "Must haves"- buy whatever you desire, what catches your eye / feels good, and is within your pricerange. And seek quality.

I bought a Gerber assisted opening Fast Draw a few weeks ago, it's decent for the money. It can be opened with the usual thumb stud or with a small "flicker" that is hidden in a recess at the top of the liner. I didn't even see it until I read the instruction pamphlet. It's a pretty fast opening knife but not as positive as some of the Kershaw's I own. Gerber knives aren't too popular around here, but I've always liked them and still do. The Kershaw Tactical Blur costs about the same as the Gerber and I'd probably go with the Blur, I just think that Kershaw Knives are better.

Another assisted opening knife that gets a lot of praise is the Camillus Heat, I don't have one but they get recommended all the time.

If you want a high quality smaller assisted knife try a Kershaw Scallion or Leek , the plain scale-less SS Leek is really nice and is built like a swiss watch (IMO). I have both the Scallion and the Leek and prefer the Leek. The Scallion is a bit too small.

You mentioned CRKT, most recommend anything in the M16 series. I have an M16-14 with an aluminum handle. Its a big knife, very well made. You might want one of the smaller versions for EDC, but stick with aluminum.

A few of my favorite folders:

Al Mar S.E.R.E. 2000 (do a search for it, tons of info, this is an awesome blade)
Emerson CQC-7B (Great folder, even better with the wave feature)
Spyderco Native (I see you got one, great choice)
Extrema Ratio M.P.C. (The strongest folder that I know of. I love it, but it does'nt cut all that efficiently due to its thickness of .25". It is an absolute brute)

Just ordered a Benchmade 710HS today as they are being discontinued in the M2 steel. I expect it to be great, as all the reviews on the forum have led me to believe.

I have personally experienced lock failure in a few CRKT folders, 2 falcons and an M16. These were without the LAWKS system engaged. If you do get one with a liner lock, be sure to test it before using it hard.

Some quality steels in folders nowadays are, 154cm, CPM-S30V, D2, VG-10 (my favorite), N690, 440C and ZDP-189, which Spyderco is using in some select models.

Hence the quotes around "must-have".

Thanks though...
