Please Critique My Design

Here is revision 2:

- blade length 3.25 -> 3.0
- handle length 3.0 -> 3.375
- cutting edge grind raised higher

At this point, I'm not too sure what to do with the handle, but I'd still like it to be wrap-able. The handle skeletonization methods I'm considering can be seen on the Izula, the Daniel Fairly Backpacker, or the BK-11.

What are other well designed handle cutouts I can reference?

Does it have to be cut out? Are you trying to save weight? My only experience with handle wrapping is on the Ontario Shiv, and it's solid. All it has is a hole drilled in the bottom of the tang to slip cord through. *shrug*

Yes, I am trying to keep weight as low as possible. A design with drilled holes (as seen on the Spyderco Mule) is also possible.

If you want a "skeletonized" look, try drilling four or five holes of increasing size. This should also work well with a cord wrap.

Ok, so I know that the balance of the knife is not a significant design factor, but I took it as a little challenge to get the point of balance as close to the index finger as possible. With the lightened handle, the balance shifts forward a bit, but once the bevel is ground, it should move back a bit.

Also, it turns out that my pinky nicely rests on the last hole when using a standard grip. The jimping also appears to be in the right place.

I'm pretty content with the shape of it. Thanks everyone!

Looking at the last pic and seeing how close your finger is to the back of the ege itself, I was wondering if it would be more prudent to either make the transition from tang to edge little more perpendicular to the egde (to, sort of, prevent finger from sliding) or make a more distinctive 'finger choil' on the tang where the index finger is to at least minimize getting cut if your hand slips... HTH

Yeah, that wouldn't hurt. It would give me a slightly longer edge length too :)
Thanks!
