Them racists :D

I agree completely. Don't get me wrong......I love racists, but to dictate my sense of fashion is just plain wrong. I look fantastic in a black shirt with my dress pants and redwings and I believe my customers feel the same way. To take that image away from me is rather violating. I'm not one to really rock the boat, but I'm having a hard time letting this one go. I may need to speak with my district manager tomorrow.

Was there some particular reason they gave you for not allowing you to wear a black shirt? That is an odd stipulation.

Absolutely not. We are required to wear shades of gray and blue dress clothes and black slacks are allowed......however a black shirt seems to be an area of debate at this point. The company controller in my state is even a little unclear as to why shirts cannot be black. Again......I look stunning in a black shirt and this is a disservice to my customers.

For whatever it's worth, I also had a peanut butter and jelly sand which for lunch.

Could it be that they want you to wear company colors for shirts?

I had one place I worked I could only wear 3 colors of shirts. However they paid for the shirts that I could wear. Another place I worked at, I could ONLY wear black shirts. Again though, they bought me the shirts.

I actually just got off the phone. I have a meeting tomorrow with the district manager at 1 pm. I've always been one to choose my battles wisely.......but I'm digging my heels in on this one.

Not a fan of the pleating, makes the shirt look like a waiter, or actually a bus boy.

What do you do for work?

I'm in sales. I appreciate the opinion on the shirt though. With a nice pair of slacks, (why it's called a "pair" of pants is beyond me) the shirt actually holds it's own pretty well.

Could someone please tell me this shirt does not look fantastic?

Ask and ye shall receive....

This shirt does not look fantastic. :D

(I'm with C-Bear, the pleats are a little off-putting...looks like it should go under a white tuxedo jacket...THEN maybe it might not not look fantastic...)

I'm sure it does. I just personally don't like pleats. I'm a rather large fellow so pleats just make that even more obvious. I would go with a plain black button down with some khaki or light colored pants. Not white though. I hate white pants. Tan, khaki, light green, brown, are all good with a black shirt where it doesn't look overwhelming. Grey even looks good. Black shirt with black pants is just a bit overwhelming.

Fashion discussion? Really?!

Let's get this thread back off topic.

Definitely agree with the white pants.....that's a no no, and in sales it's an absolute death sentence. I'm a pretty good sized guy as well but the pleating doesn't seem to get in the way too much. Pretty much all my slacks are black dress pants and I think I'm able to pull off the black on black fairly well.....but then again.......pigs don't know pigs stink. So far I've gotten two thumbs down on the choice in shirts, so I suppose I may not pull the black on black off as well as I've thought. Or the pleats for that matter.

I'd have to see the black-on-black to really make a call on it, but the black shirt with gray (or grey?) slacks sounds like it would work. Got my son a medium grey suit at Men's Wearhouse a few weeks back and it looked pretty good with a black shirt...although we wound up picking a purple and a white shirt that time.

I'm not allowed to wear a black shirt where I work.

Is it specifically forbidden in the official personnel manual as published by the company HR? Or is some kinda low-level mangler BS?

When I worked at a little computer company in central Texas (rhymes with Hell), one of my 18 manglers (let's call him "Bob") (in 9.5 years - almost a new one every 6 months) tried to implement a "Ties on Monday" policy. The first week, I "forgot". The 2nd week, I went to Badwill and bought the brightest, loudest, most obnoxious tie I could find. His asked me to tone it down. The 3rd week, I wore a Boy Scout neckerchief. He said, "I mean a "real" tie." So, the 4th week I wore a Western bolo tie. When he bitched, I politely stated that the Western Bolo was the official tie of Texas and had been so since 1985. Now, he gets really upset and said, "Quit screwing around. You know the kind of tie I mean."

To which I said nothing, just turned around, went to his boss and asked him (my boss's boss) for a copy of the new personnel manual. When he asked why, I just told him that since ties were now mandatory on Mondays, and "Bob" didn't like any neck wear I chose to wear, I wanted to see what kind of tie was now mandatory wear as specified in the manual since my 4 year old version did not specify an official tie, or that a tie was required and that I didn't remember seeing a specified mandatory tie in my contract. And that I would have to take off to go to HR to get one if he didn't have a copy.

He said that there was no new manual, that there was no "Ties on Monday" policy and don't worry about it.

"Bob" was no longer our manager the next day.
