Please Enlighten Me

I don't know about your knife skills, but your sarcasm needs a bit more work. Overdoing it loses effect.
Maybe when you're older and wiser you'll advance to being able to use those tricky verbal/literary skills. ;)
Oh, I don't know. It seems to have gotten to you pretty well.

Thats a old school Busse, I can't remember the name at the moment. The Junglas is a great knife, the Busse is just in a different league in use. Hard to believe until you see the actual difference in use.

Hmmm, im intrigued. I like old school. Better made it seems. I have a topps .177 im interested in trying out also.

Battle Mistress, and yes, IMO they are in a completely different league!

Every time he posts pics of it, I miss the couple I had years ago....

Tops and Esee both make good knives, very close in quality. Vastly different in design for the most part. Busse is better steel and fit and finish as well. The one in the Pic posted was a Ergo model, I just don't remember which one specifically. The anniversary straight handled battle mistress is another that chops like crazy and is still being made.

Baton, schmaton.... I'll just chop the hell outta stuff with Excalibur here:

BM-e. Battle Mistress - it's just the "ergo" version of the straight handle BM.

It is indeed the Mistress. In addition, my name is Adam. :D
Also, that knife lacks the proper geometry to effectively slice or otherwise birfurcate cabbages.

But, seriously fellas (if ya don't know me by now, etc...) - I have batonned tons of wood. I'm talking log cabin amounts of wood. I have never broken a knife doing it. But I own knives that are more than capable for this task. I wouldn't go beating my blades up if they were turds with handles. Some blades just won't stand up to it.

I've also used axes, chainsaws, etc. Would I rather have a chainsaw to process wood? Sure. But I'm not "humping one" into the forest. An axe neither. I don't need an axe, an SAK, a folding saw, an Opinel, a multitool, a couple Moras, a firesteel, etc. either.

If you're talking about tremendous cutting power and flexible capabilities, all in an easy to carry package, I reach for a big knife every time. I always have a smaller one on me for the smaller stuff, so the only one I notice is the big whomper slapping my leg.

If your knife can take it, baton ON!

LMAO! Sorry, Adam! I'll call you by name instead of "he" from now on.

That big badass blade rules mightily Adam! I'm jealous brother.

Forcing a knife through wood, or as some of you call it "baton"

I agree we don't need another batoning thread. I will say, I camped a lot and hunted/fished/trapped and even unknowingly did some bushcraft (we just called it messing around in the woods... Which is mostly what it is) before getting on here, and I didn't know batoning existed.

I have to say, I had the same experience.... But, once I saw it done, I added it to my "toolbox of skills" and have done it when I needed to ever since.

I don't always need to baton wood, but when I do, I prefer to think it's not that big of a deal.

Love all the comments. It's pretty much preference! Batoning is good for playing around or extremely light packing where you have weight consideration but nothing beats the right tool for the job. Good thread and comments. I would agree that batoning gets too much consideration for things like knife reviews but on the other hand, I love to play with my rtak 2 and baton the crap out wood
