I have a problem, I absolutely cannot get rid of my Military. The knife is ugly as sin, it's tip down only when I really like tip up, s30v is not my favorite steel in the world and honestly, the orange handles, although useful are pretty ugly when they're as dirty as they end up by the end of the week. For some reason, and I can't figure out why it's kicked Striders out of my pocket, Chris Reeve knives out of my pocket and all various other high end knives. I use the knife every day, cutting sandpaper, boxes, tape, pretty much anything that needs to get cut, gets cut with my military. I've never taken it apart to clean or lube it, occasionally I blow it out with an air compressor. The blade is not perfectly centered, but it does not interfere with anything. The edge came very sharp, and i've never sharpened it and I'm a sharpening junkie. Just a weekly stropping. I use this knife so much that I rarely strop it with anything higher grit than JRE black compound, which will shave hair with ease. Help me, I beg of you.. Show me a knife that will kick this awesome monstrosity out of my pocket. To this day, with all the $$ I've spent on knives, I've yet to find one that I love more than the basic Military. There's gotta be something out there, but I doubt it. :p

Honestly, at this point the only things that interest me are the Large Damascus Seb and the Scott Cook Lochsa, I'll probably pick up a Lionsteel sr-1 too but I bet you anything I'll end up selling it.

> translation: I can't think of a better knife to replace it with either, LOL.:D

For those not familiar with sarcasm, my post is simply praising the Spyderco Military for being a knife which costs far less than many other knives and while on paper I don't "Love it", but while in use, is the perfect knife for me. Furthermore, my posts raises the question "Is there anything else?". You see, I have been disappointed with many knives when I compare them in use to the basic Military, so I'm asking for other options I can try out. I'm a knife junkie, so what fun would it be if I didn't keep trying different knives? Hope my clarification was sufficient.

The Military is your true love. Don't fight it. There are worse things in life than carrying a sweet blade that you dig.

i have the same problem

it's to big, pocket clip only tip down, sticks out way to much in the pocket, but it's been in my edc since i got it. I'm absolutely falling in love and i hope to ad a titanium one to the collection(pocket)

Mine was unseated by a ParaMilitary 2. Time will tell if its long term. Still love my orange Military, but I found the Para to be just that much more comfortable.

Lets just cut to the chase. Chicks dig the orange Military. Thats enough reason right there to carry it.

And, its sorta to easy to find:

230 grains, how do you keep your tip so pristine..?? seems like 2 weeks of usage and the tip on my new knife will disappear..

Powernoodle: is that a d'allara I see to the right of the opinel? If so, how do you like it? Especially the uncaged-ball bearing lock

The answer you've been looking for is up for pre-order at KW, there are only 800 being made so you better get on it, it can be found in the exclusives section or the spyderco section ;)

thanks for this.... ive been lusting for a para2 for the longest.

and now seeing your ORANGE military makes me want one of those too!

my wallet isnt so thankful though. =)

I agree that you need to try a Para 2 if you haven't tried one out yet. The Military is too big even though I have fairly large hands but the Para 2 is just about perfect and is tip up.

Probably your sharpening technique. If you pull the tip of the knife off the stone or edge of a sharpmaker, then you can kiss the pointy tip goodbye.

And that is a D'allara. I've got a couple and they are pretty big knives and take up a lot of pocket space for it's size. Fits my hand great, though I'm not a powernoodle. The uncaged lock is a little more difficult to pull back than the caged version but not too bad.

Sorry Mike,

You are stick using it for the rest of your life. :D

I own 5 of them myself. :)

2X S30V

S90V

2X CTS-XHP

The solution is simple. Buy a Ti Military and a CPM S 90 V military. Swap the blade into the Ti Handle. Then order a left handed clip from Spyderco. Drill and tap your Ti handle for a tip up carry. What could be simpler? If you put the Carbon fiber slab on the non-lock side, you will reduce the weight of the knife from 162 gm to 140 gm. Are we having fun yet?
