Please Restore My Faith in Gerber!

never had one of their knifes so i cant say about them but i hear a lot of good things about their baby products

My Gerber River Shorty does everything I need it to do. Other than that, I haven't purchased a Gerber branded knife since the late 1990's.

They are the best thing they've produced the last 10 years, indeed. All other stuff in their catalog is crap

The oatmeal one has a delicious nutty flavor

I think Gerber should take the approach of Puma or Kershaw or Boker. These companies realized they needed cheaper knives for the box stores and such, but also didn't want to lose their credibility in the knife community so the started different lines. For instance there is Puma,Puma IP (spain), and Puma SGB (china). They can then hit different price points but keep a line of high quality preserved.

The guy
Asked for no bashing and that's what he got. Variety is awesome.

The Gerbers & Puma's of the 60's, 70's & early 80's were the top of the line in the production knife world. (still have 3 of each brand from that era) They've been a downhill slide in quality since they sold to Fiskars in the late 80's. After I saw the pitiful quality of the para-frame knife several years back I've never considered buying Gerber again.

I asked Gerber to redo the LST in Micarta, like Gerber once did, or G10 and add a pocket clip. And, offer a large version. What are they waiting for??
I think these folders would sell very well.

No problem. Seems like every Wally in America has a different knife selection so good luck.

I forgot to update.
I went to my local Walmart after checking online that they had the plain-edge "in stock". It wasn't in the display case, and I had to hassle the guy running the counter (a complete tool) to get him to actually reach down and pull one of the boxes for me, as he insisted that they only had what was shown in the case. Well, the first box he pulled was just what I'd come for:

Already own the DPSF EZ-out in S30V, and the combo-edge Order, I may get a regular EZ-out just for the sake of it, but I honestly like the Order handle better than the plainer EZ-out handle.

Now, Gerber, please go ahead and tap some brass into the but of the scales and add a nicer pocket-clip with tip-up carry

I spent like 2 years trying to make a warranty claim on an assisted folder that crapped it's pants in less than a month. Could never get a response through their website. And when I'd call, they said they would email me instructions. The emails (I called like 4 or 5 times, and was always told the same) never came.

Gerber should change their name to "Gerberge". Because both their knives and their warranty is rubbish.

Nice! I like the colors of the handles too. Is that a satin finish or bead blast? Looks different in each picture. What was the price?

The colors actually match my cell-phone "case" black nylon and gray silicon. I'll snag a pic of them together sometime. I'm not usually that color-coordinated! :p

Finish is bead blast, but it's a very fine grain, smooth, best seen in the 4th pic (close-up of edge). Note the the clip is also bead-blasted - the picture online shows a black clip, so it's possible that the folks building these were given both the black and the bead-blasted clips to use, since Gerber has used both for the EZ-outs as well (same clips, indeed the same general build other than handle-design and blade-style).

Price was $34+ not "on sale", which isn't too bad, should be <$30 during any kind of sale. They also had a blackwash Kershaw Link that was pricier ($39+) and a Cryo that was about the same price. I considered the link as well, but I generally dislike/distrust liner-locks and also A/O, and the Order is significantly lighter - maybe 2oz vs 4oz on the Link?

I've been EDCing since I picked it up. It isn't as convenient to operate as my benchmade (axis lock), but it's thin and very light, works great on packages and rope and apples and wood, etc. Also, being full plain-edge it is simpler to sharpen - just a swipe or two on the hone and I'm back to popping hairs

The thumb-hole isn't as nice as a round spydie hole, but it's been working fine.

I'm very happy with it, just as I am with my serrated Order (which lately has served cutting lines and vacancies into 4x8 panels of 1/2" fiberboard sheathing).
