Guys...I've been reminded that the HI forum is for HI related knives and knife talk.

A couple othreads have been moved to the Cantina and a couple to Knife reviews. Nothing at all wrong with any of them, just needed to be swept to the correct forums.

Thanks for your support...

i'm so confused. i post in the Cantina for something not directly related to HI at all, and it gets moved to HI. i post something very much about HI with actual HI's in use, pictures, praise, and it gets moved (okay, yah, it had one non HI blade, for comparison, still).

i thought i got it. clearly i don't. could perhaps, this be 'splained for this dude that is me what not getting it? mmm. i've based my selections/choices on prior history and usage. have things changed

thanx

I'm confused too. And I've been gone all day and blew it by not sending Nasty a clarification Cougar sent to me yesterday.

The first thing is not to worry.
We'll sort 'er out. Can you bear with us while we do?

thanks

well, i'm not too worried, but i have my concerns... questions at least...

the big one is, i write these things for you/us HI type guys mostly, if others find it, that's okay too, but my tone and method *here* is vastly different than a "formal review" in a review section. plus, if i don't know if my post will get moved around, effectively i don't know who to write for, and my heart and time is limited, longer more involved posts like this will dwindle.

it's nice to have the "moved" flag thing so folx here can go find my post, but it seems like it'll just get moved down fast, and lost, and there's not much way to go find it again, in a khukri context. heck, i have my own copy on my computer, and in my own blog, but as i rarely hit reviews myself (except via search), it's gone, like tears in the rain. this is a loss for us all.

having looked through about the last 100 or so title entries here, there's some by name or that i know have little to do with HI directly, some about khukris in general, and one or two not at all - chatty...

i bow to the decisions of those on high that know how to run things; i'd like a clue though, so i know how best to write, for who, and how to spend my time and energy. my heart is mostly here, the rest of the forum ... not so much.

thanx

I agree and we will get this understanding done. I'll try to talk to Nasty/Yangdu personally tomorow.

I understand what you are saying about writing for your audience...I'm just the hired help.

Spark said HI stuff, Cougar said knife reviews and testing go into the forum titled "Knife Reviews and Testing".

Up to Spark...no problem for me. They are all good posts and I enjoyed them.

I'm with Bladite. This time I think the supers swept up something that fits over here. I've never gone to the review section. What the hell, now one of our friends can't show us pics of choppings he made and his knives. If one of us wants to show pics he'd better not have another knife in the pics, and OOOO don't mention any other knife. I've kept queit on this because of my relative newness, but I think this was too heavy handed. I've also never seen these super mods hanging out over here when not sweeping something, and I just don't think they get us.

Not surprising. Too many posts for the mods to always be right. I posted about playing golf over in community, and it got moved to gadgets and gear, despite the fact that neither my original post nor the follow ups even mentioned golf equipment.

I always kind of felt that the HI forum and then later, and to a lesser extent, the Cantina, was a place for "us" to hang out. If I have a question, even about a non-HI thing, I like to hear from the folks on here that I know and trust. I might be wrong, but it seems like thats a no-no now. Things seems to be changing, and not for the better.

As far as moving stuff this is Bladeforums and it's their forum and their rules and if I want to play here I want to play by their rules.

At the same time when I was banned I was told that it wouldn't really make much difference if I tried to appeal to the admin of BF because HI pays for this forum and that gives them a lot of say as far as what can and can't be done here, so I'm not sure really where this new stuff is coming from.

I do know being a mod myself it is usually not worth moving a post because it generally really irritates the person posting it, because often it has a chilling effect on conversation.

On the other hand my view of the whole moderator thing is the moderators main job is to keep conversation going, and maybe control the whole thing by setting a tone, you know what can you do to keep the post count very high.

However a lot of forums it's more like the moderator is the policeman. Now if the neighborhood is bad you are happy to see the policeman every day:thumbup: But if you are driving through somewhere every day and a policeman follows you and you are constantly looking at your speedometer and the road signs making sure you aren't doing anything wrong it has a different effect.

I think the key is to try to let people know what and what not they can do.

As far as all the recent posts moved after reading Cougars posts I knew they would be moved. I was real surprised Sarge's recent thread he did on the file knives he made wasn't moved to the Custom Knife forum.

I feel like right now I have a good idea as to what and what not to post. However I don't think everyone does for some reason.

I haven't talked it over with Nasty yet. I think Antique khuks get to stay.
There was an axe in the review of khuks so it had to leave. Talk about HI stuff, briefly refer to other stuff, but if there is a comparative review it cannot be here. That's why the thread with the Fiskars tool was moved.

I apologize for all the confusion.
I think the confusion is my fault for not forwarding Cougar's additional note to Nasty sooner.

Custom knives? Me? All I do is make new junk out of old junk. Keeping my hands busy keeps this old fool out of trouble. Pop over to the cantina, I hammered out a silly looking little old knife the other evening, ain't fit for much of nothing. Take a look, and maybe you can help me figure out what it's good for. ;)

i somewhat understand, a bit, but given other recent posts (one in particular that is a review and plug in a way for a non-HI knife and style), i'm not anywhere near 100%... especially since my three of my posts have been moved, out of the HI cantina to HI main (semi-understandble), but two right out of HI land altogether? i'm still not there. call me slow, call me confused, just call! i would have expected it to at least gotten moved to the cantina. this is a first.

i wonder if i hadn't had the word "review" in my title (which i can't edit unfortunately), it wouldn't have gotten flagged.

honestly, and i can't say why exactly, i'm unsettled about this. part of me really doesn't want it in the review area. i could rewrite it without mentioned the fiskars, but it's more an HI post than anything. i could edit the version over in reviews as a fiskars review. i dunno. i would really like the HI content to stay with us, not there. it'll get lost otherwise.

pondering. diminished.

I think I'm catching on,
If I talk about chopping up a bunch of storm felled trees with my 18" HI Ang Khola, that's an anecdotal customer testimonial, not an evaluation or comparison. If I talk about chopping up a bunch of storm felled trees with my 18" HI Ang Khola, and a Marble's Trailmaker Bowie, going into the pros and cons of each, I'm at that point peeing in the swimming pool. At least that's how my reptilian brain understands the deal.

Sarge

That's right, Sarge.

Bladite, once you put a Fiskars axe into the thread, it was technically a comparitive knife review- to the appropriate forum.
I'm thinking about it too. I want HI forumites to be able to talk to each other. Obviously, that is what has made this place special.

gotcha. so if i edit out any reference to fiskars, can i put that version back here? or what? i want this to be about HI out and about. the fact i had a fiskars (and an RTAK) was just incidental comparison and insight. the pictures are very khurkri and tree heavy, not fiskars heavy.

how does that compare to having a post about a non HI item?

not trying to be difficult here, there's a nuance that doesn't click yet. i want to have less work your for you mods not more. at least from this poor ones pov, there's oddness.

bladite

Yep. the fiskars threw it out, as would a comparison review of any other knife tool product.

Nasty, I get the impression you liked the posts, that you enjoyed them.
