Please review Sparks thread

Fiskars out, post in HI main forum *or* the Cantina...your choice. That would have made the difference to me.

Of course, by now some folks are seeing it in the Review section and will probably be posting to it there also.

My head hurts now...

bladite,

I am with you.

I have bookmarked this very HI Forum when I fist came here. When I click BF bookmak it pops out just here for me.
This growing regulation might affect the comfort that many enjoys here. Overmoderation means more work for mods and less space for speach for anybody. That is IMHO my 2 cents.
My country used to be communist for 44 years. I still remember the feeling when everybody had to watch himself what he was saying and where. We were censoring ourselves almost all the time except the time we spent with our families. :barf:

Well, english is not my mother tongue and I am not even paying member of BF so far. The rate of my posts is not high too. So why I am daring to post this, I do not know. I do not want to offend anybody or question the rules or rulers. I'll just have to accept them. I am sorry if I did not express myself properly or politely but I had to vent my feeling (see the censor in me :) ) and where to do it if not in the family.

cosco, I don't think you have spoken out of line, but I'm sure we will find out. Thanks for speaking out.

I think you were right on Cosco.

I edited out the rest.

thanx for the support. this thread has generated more traffic than my "review" thread. it wasn't even a REVIEW, i had no science or angles or timings ;P just comparison *grin* so, let's stop bothering the nice mods.

i think i get it. i can't mention anything else, except in passing. gotcha. (pssst, there were two non HI products, everyone is hung up on the fiskars ;>).

later, i will try to copy my posts, remove any mention whatsoever of other product, and try again - if folx feel like cutting and pasting anything they already said, all the better. i'll avoid the word review. hopefully this generates the kind of conversation i was hoping for. the placement in reviews pretty much killed that. if this meets the guidelines, as i hope, all will be good.

Bottom line;

Spark's the boss, and more.

In the forums, Mods are the arbiters for Spark.

We have this space at Spark's discretion & should be grateful for it.

That said,

I'm confused re the posting rules

& apprehensive for the robustness of the HI forum/cantina.

I thought Spark's ruling/directive was clear.

=======================================================
No More Off Topic Threads In This Forum
I've created a HI Cantina forum for you guys. I want all off topic threads going in there from now on.

By having so many off topic threads in this forum, you guys have made it so it's impossible to prune out the non-knife related stuff when I want to prune the deadwood. As such, when I prune we have to lose some of the HI forum information as well.

Please limit HI related topics to this forum, and the off topic stuff to the cantina from now on.
=======================================================

"off topic stuff to the cantina"

Simple.

But now I'm confused by the divying & parceling.

And that divying & parceling is, I think,
going to be the end of the comaderie of the Cantina.

I, myself, will not be looking around in the other forums
trying to find various posts of my friends here.
So I'll drift off further & further.

I am still confused and frusterated with this situation. I understand it, but it kind of requires a bit more thought than i am used to. I have said it many times. I'm lazy. I know everyone is just doing there job. I know there is nothing we can do about it now. I just wish the ridiculous thread that started all of this had never happened. In no way did it ever even remotely belong here. Now look what have.
I know we have to roll with the punches, but there comes a time when "different" really does equate to "not the same at all". This is not a vent at Spark, our mods, or anyone. I just feel disheartened a bit. It's going to take time for me to get used to the new taste.

I agree with ddean, cosco and Jake.

Is the idea to force/encourage participation in other maker's forums?

More pigeonholing=less enjoyment of why we're here.

Folks...I'm sorry for any confusion I created (contributed to, caused, etc) along with any offense taken. Two of the threads have been returned to the main HI forum.

If you think it's confusing on your side, you outta look over here.

mea culpa...mea culpa...mea culpa.

(did I mention that *I* thought *all* the posts were great?)

Nasty, please do not apologize. I am (we are) sure you do your best. I feel with you. I can imagine how hard it has to be being the mod here. I would not swap with you for a split of second (not that I could).

You know there is another khuk forum somewhere. AFAIK that was the predecestor of HI Forum. It is pretty slow though. When someone asks some general question about khuk there, he is allmost everytime poited here by the people that participate in both forums. You pointed myself here in the begining. It used to be very good to discuss general khukuri things freely here even though everybody knew this forum belonged to HI.

Ad Astra, I was thinking about the same. I allmost went to check out how much posts the other forums here got. Then I told myself "why bother?"

I'd better go outside chopping some tree with one of my 3 (!) khuks - all of them being HI. But it's midnight over here.

cosco

Um...cosco? I hear the new Mod there is a *really* great guy...

Cosco, don't let him fool you, he is a PITA also, but I understand he has a larger broom.

Our meds are the best.

Arrggh. :foot: I mean our MODS are the best. My meds are pretty good too, though.

Curse the commie/infidel/zombie that stirred this up. May the Curse of the Inability to Sharpen lay upon him. Heavily.

Funny, the folks in the GI Joe forum didn't complain when I pictured their product with a 25" khukuri. Maybe my forum name, "Devourer of Plastic Souls" threw them.

Nasty: "mea culpa...mea culpa...mea culpa"

Not at all! ...Not at all! ...Not at all!

Mods gots jobs to do;
that need to be done.

Our thanks for taking it on
stress & all.

My comments were more generic---
no blame.
I was expressing something to anyone & everyone here.

I don't think I ever saw whatever you're referring to
& it doesn't matter anyway.

I guess I'd just like the new rule(s) concisely stated.
Maybe a set of examples for extreme clarity.
One post; sticky & locked.

Originally.
.....Spark made a rule.
.....He posted it.
HI related topics to this forum [ Original HI forum ],
and the off topic stuff [ non-HI related topics ] to the cantina

That's a very generous solution appreciating the character of the cantina.

Sounds simple to me
& it seemed to be working fine.
A few things were deemed entirely inappropriate & removed or moved.

I'd just like to see a solution/rule that retains
the much-praised-by-others character of the forum/cantina.

I be done now.

Don't apologize Nasty.

That's right, Sarge.

Bladite, once you put a Fiskars axe into the thread, it was technically a comparitive knife review- to the appropriate forum.
I'm thinking about it too. I want HI forumites to be able to talk to each other. Obviously, that is what has made this place special.
munk

It was a good review about a number of HI knives in use. Just had a side mention of a hatchet. I enjoyed it . I would not have benefited from it if it was in reviews, which I never go to.

Can't talk about air without breathing it.

Just my .02 worth.

No apologies necessary for sure Nasty. Easy to get confused on all this. I'm still blocking it out.

Guys, on this one anyway, I'm not too worried about it. I understand order has to be maintained, but we don't want it to cramp the style that we have grown accustomed to. Here is what I plan on doing:

When writing about HI stuff I'll put it in the main HI forum. When writing about anything OT, including mentioning or showing a pic of another knife, I'll put it in the Cantina. When writing a comparison of an HI knife against another knife, I'll put it in the Reviews section.

I do want to be able to do a review of a new HI knife, like Eric did with his new Dragon YCS, without having to put it in the Review section, and think that will be OK. Spark (or maybe it was Cougar?) Said before that would be OK.

When in doubt on anything, rather than fretting about it I plan on just posting it here, and if it needs to be moved you'll still find the subject heading here and can follow it to it's new correct location, so it will be referred in both places.

As 95% of what I post about is HI knives, or OT stuff that goes direct to the Cantina, like I said, I'm not too worried about it. Just post where you think it should go, and if you guess wrong, the mods will take care of it for us.

From what I read here, even Nasty got one slightly mixed up, so the rest of us can be forgiven if we blow it from time to time! :D

No worries... (-:

i am mostly non interested in writing "general reviews for the masses - i want to write my audience of choice, and do not post in the reviews forum by choice as a rule.

if by error, i have a post that should be moved, i would rather be informed so that i can fix it so that it won't be moved. i select where i post carefully. if i wanted something in reviews or elsewhere, i'd post there.

in the future, i will be more careful, as i thoughtfully ponder as a rule, and with intent, that shouldn't be a problem. i will discuss politely should conflict occur - i don't want fights or conflict. i want enthusiasm and participation.

i affirm that all posts are mine [such that security allows] (in all ways) and as i'm responsible for what i post, i reserve the right to edit down a post to fix it, or to oblivion, or ask for it to be deleted or locked. as i retain copyright on anything i write (if that wasn't already clear by convention), including final disposition of said content, i don't see any real problems occuring either.

the mods shouldn't have to worry about these things or work harder as a result. it should be simple, and friendly. i wish to continue to stay here, check out the deals, and commune with my fellow khukri people. i know there's a great big forum out there, but i pick and choose my community. i am honored to be amongst such fine people. i would hate to feel stifled.
