PlummerDave Look At This!

Gordon,

YOU need to plan to go to Blade Show next year. Besides the Fort Buck calvary members and our maneuvers, lots of scale material dealers and equipment dealers occupy the territory. I don't need one but looking at the fancy belt sanders made me want one. I didn't feel the same way about a viking sword.....sweet shine. 300Bucks

Well, I'm headin' out for a little ride with a couple of my buddys. We're headed to the beach. The weather's beautiful and the bikinis are in full bloom! Be back later.

You must live in Panama...Frost warnings again last night; I haven't opened a window yet this year; furnace on all the time... :grumpy:

Last year was the coldest in the last 50 years; this year is on target to break that record...

Central coast of California, just about 3 miles south of Pismo Beach.:D

Dave,

I'll have your Iraqi Freedom knife and Maple Burl knife in the mail tomorrow. I need to give the handles a lite sanding after the sealer and probably a little more buffing on the bolsters.

Oh, and there will be a surprise in the box.:D You're going to like getting this package I think!

Man, you are just being too good to me! I've been coming back to this thread about every ten minutes just to look at the pictures again.:)

I'll snap a few before I wrap it up in the morning.
Sorry but the knife has been in dry phase. So, picture for your coffee in the morning.

Dave,

Ended up not taking any additional pictures as there wasn't anything new about knife that needed showing off. I expect you'll have it on Thursday.

That surprise involves some coral but that's all I'm going to say. :)

Absolutely incredible work, Gordon! That job is equal or better than any custom job I have ever seen.

Mate I have to agree. That looks truely beautiful.

Any bloke would be proud to own that.

What a looker!

So here's were I'm at by lunch.
Still some more work on the scale finish but mostly its polished out and done.

Is it better now Ed??

Pictures again, just because.....
Angry face because it's not mine :)

Thanks Pagey. Dave picked out the scale...I just did a little sanding and gluing.
Its really fairly routine after about the 5 try at it. Just get a good belt grinder and 8 inch buffer and your in business.

Its all about your tools.
If you get a good belt grinder that'll grind at 90 degrees so your got square corners you'll all good.

Dave I hope you like it. The more I look at it the more I think it's done. g

What else can be done? Oh, maybe send it to me for 20-30 years of quality control testing:DPlumber really doesnt need any more knives.:foot::eek:
Great job Flat and nice addition to your collection Plum

Hey fritz, I can see that you haven't caught on yet. It's not about NEEDING, it's all about WANTING!:D

Not to worry, I'm having trouble explaining the concept to my wife too.;)

Oh I caught on Plum-that was just out and out jealousy in my comment-one of my faults.:p

Thanks for comparing me to a non-understanding wife though.
Oh I think I found your next knife-you'll find it right in my back...ouch:D

David H. sure thinks it looks great! Some of that or ironwood mixed with some white micarta would be pretty special too.

Plum...hey man I got some white linen micarta in today:) Its gonna rain again today and I think its time to start our project.

For the rest of you, me and Dave need some input. I'm going to do a barehead 110 for him with desert Ironwood (maybe) and white linen micarta. This is the look we'll being going for:

Of course the micarta replaces the camel bone and ironwood can replace the mammoth tooth but that's not decided yet.

Wood Options:
1. Desert Ironwood
2. Curley Maple burl (used on the knife project above-111)
3. Gabon Ebony
4. Amboyna Burl
5. Curly Rosewood
6. Sambar Stag

Spacer Options are red, blue, or black.
Spacer Option for wood to micarta transition is nothing or one of the three colors or Nickel Silver.

So, Plummer Dave you got some thinking to do.
I'm going to be cutting down the back bolster this morning on your knife.
Everybody else throw in those OPINIONS.

This should be a fun project and I’ll do a in progress picture layout. I hope I don’t fork it up.

Wow, I don't know where to start. As much as I love stag, I don't know if it would provide enough contrast to the micarta. I guess it would depend on how dark the bark is, so I'll let you make that call.

You know I love the maple burl, amboyna and desert ironwood. A NS spacer between the wood and micarta would really be classy in my opinion. As far as the other spacer, I just don't know. Red or black seems right to me, but I'll leave it up to you. You can see what it will be like and I really trust your judgement.

Let's see what eveyone else thinks! This is really getting exciting.
