PM2 Carry

Ok, so I took my new PM2 out and it is setup that if I put it in my right front pocket it would be: tip down, blade opening facing left towards groin.

So if I want to carry in right front pocket tip up I would need to flip the clip to the other end on the same side (red arrow). That would make it tip up and blade opening side facing right towards outer part of leg, correct. For tip up, that is the correct way for right hand pocket carry correct?

I find that most things that I need to "cut" or seperate matter, can be done with the tip of a ball point pen or a key. I use a knife because I like to carry and use my knives. But the truth is that if I kept it in a holster or sheath and anywhere but clipped to my pocket, it would be faster to justuse something else. Not always, but a lot of the time. If im at work I carry a pocket screwdriver in my shirt pocket along with a stainless pen and there are razor blades all over the shop. I could probably go without a knife at work but I like to use my own blade and its safer most of the time. Again, it would be faster to use anything else if my knife wasnt clipped to the top of my pocket. So, thats where I keep it.

The cool thing about tip up, right hand carry, is that the blade is resting against the seam of your pocket. So that if for whatever reason the detent isn't strong enough, the blade would stay shut, instead of cutting up your hand when you went to reach in your pocket.

Tip down, right back pocket in my jeans. Generally, I prefer tip-up, right front pocket, but given its size, the PM2 tends to get in the way of getting at other things in that pocket (which, for me, is keys and wallet).

Correct.

I find the detent in my Digicam/satin PM2 to be excellent. This knife has pushed some much more expensive knives outta' my pocket.

According to who, exactly?

Spyderco ships the knife configured that way.

I have read about so many knives on the sales forum that have stripped screws and stripped screw holes that I try not to move a clip if I don't have to. My Para 2 came equipped the way I wanted it so I didn't have to risk damage by changing it.

They put quad carry options on the knife, they had to pick a spot to install it out of the factory. Evidence points towards leaving the final say to the user, otherwise why go through the trouble of drilling the other 9 holes?

Beats me. I've never been able to figure out why anyone would want to use the other 3 sets of holes. (Well I guess it's possible that someone on this forum is left-handed, but that doesn't explain the other 6 holes.)

I believe God would be the answer to that.

And he carries tip-down too?

From this thread alone it seems like there are quite a few people that are left handed--four on the first page of this thread!

I'm also left handed and have it set up for left pocket, tip up.

I carry my Para 2 RFP, tip up, against the lateral seam.

Drilling and tapping 12 clip screw holes is easier than arguing over which position is best. Most of the replies on this thread favor tip up, and we have a bunch of southpaws, to boot. Spyderco gives us the choice so we can each pick the orientation that floats our boat. Back when they were making/selling the PM1, lots of forumites requested four way clip options, and Spyderco honored those requests in the PM2. I liked the PM1, but there were a few things that kept me from buying one. Limited clip placement was one of those things.

I'm left handed but I carry in the right pocket and deploy my knives with my right hand. I also shoot firearms right handed. That's what's awesome about being left handed, you can do a lot of things with both hands if need be. But with knives, I'm actually better at deploying my knife with my right hand. I can cut with either hand though.

Also, there is no "right" way to carry a knife. You should do what works best for you. It's okay if you like tip down, we won't make fun of you too much. All hail the tip up master race!
