PM2 Carry

I usually just drop it unclipped in my pocket and go. Finally stopped babying it months after purchase.

I'm left handed but I carry in the right pocket and deploy my knives with my right hand. I also shoot firearms right handed. That's what's awesome about being left handed, you can do a lot of things with both hands if need be. But with knives, I'm actually better at deploying my knife with my right hand. I can cut with either hand though.

Also, there is no "right" way to carry a knife. You should do what works best for you. It's okay if you like tip down, we won't make fun of you too much. All hail the tip up master race!

haha me too. it's funny that most left handed people are proficient with their right hands since the world is configured that way :)

i also deploy my knife better with my right since most of my knives are configured for right hand tip up carry. however, i still cut better with my left

Yeah, I find that I cut better with my left hand too. But if it's a quick job I just use my right hand.

All the people that carry tip-down might be challenged, but that's why we carry tip-down. We need the advantage in drawing speed that this give us since we aren't coordinated enough to draw our knives and flip them around in our hands before we can open them.

And it does seem that there are a high percentage of left-handers responding here.

I don't understand this at all. I carry almost all of my knives tip-up and I don't flip anything around before opening them. I can open a knife with pretty much identical speed in either orientation. What's going on that's causing you to have to make any sort of adjustment when removing the knife from your pocket?

My thumb will not go far enough into my pocket to reach a tip-up thumb hole or thumb stud on anything longer than about 2.75", and I have pretty big hands. I pull the knife out and I can't open it because my thumb isn't in the right position, so I either have to flip the knife around 180 degrees or I have to slide the knife down a couple of inches in my hand. This is probably because I wear jeans every day. When I pull out a tip-down knife my thumb is right on the thumb stud or thumb hole and I can open the knife immediately.

I've tried to study how the tip-up carry works and all I could find to explain it were some videos on youtube of guys wearing pajamas and loose sweat pants where they could stick their whole hand into their pocket and grab the far end of the knife. No way will my hand go into my pocket if there is a knife in there, so all I can do is grab the end that is sticking out and pull it out.

I used to completely ignore knives that couldn't be carried tip down because it took so much longer to pull them out and open them, but I've found a few that I liked so much that I bought them and I carry them tip-up anyway, knives such as the Gayle Bradley, ZT 0561 and Benchmade 581.

I do find it strange that Spyderco ships the Paramilitary 2 set for tip-down but they ship the Gayle Bradley set for tip-up.

I like tip up in right front pocket for all my knives. I make an exception for the Millie. All personal preference

Thanks very much for the detailed explanation. That actually makes sense.

I wear slim/skinny jeans and chinos/slacks exclusively. I have no problem opening a tip-up knife in one shot, including some of my larger knives like the 806D2, RAT1, and Endura. Rather than slide the knife, I sort of slide my thumb toward the opening mechanism and engage it in the same move. However, I don't open a knife as it's exiting my pocket. Also, while I can retrieve and open a knife quickly, I tend to do it a bit more slowly these days. I don't flick nearly as often as I used to.

We've been talking a lot about opening a knife quickly ("drawing speed", etc). Is self defense at all a factor in this decision for you?

I carry my para 2 clipped inside the front of my waistband on the right side at an oblique angle with the clip behind my belt. Accessible and well hidden and out of the way. I forget it s there.

Beats me. I've never been able to figure out why anyone would want to use the other 3 sets of holes. (Well I guess it's possible that someone on this forum is left-handed, but that doesn't explain the other 6 holes.)

And he carries tip-down too?

Ha! I messed up and only read the quote and not the post. Whenever I see someone say a knife is intended to be carried a certain way I assume they mean tip up. You know, since thats the was God actually intended it to be.

It looks like a lot of you go tip-up carry, not me, not with a PM2. I don't know about your PM2's, but none of mine give me that absolute 100% confidence in the detent, not to mention that blade shape/tip. We have all been cut, but that one would be a hall of famer'. I carry right front pocket, clipped. Plenty of room for keys and what not.

Just curious how that would be any more safe? As has been mentioned in this thread, tip up keeps the spine of the knife pressed into the seam of the pocket, holding othe blade closed. Tip down in the RFP would allow the blade to point towards the center of the pocket so if a loose detent allowed the blade to pop open, it would open right up inside your pocket. Seems like that would be quite a bit more dangerous?

I carry my PM2 , LFP, tip up, with blade toward the back seam (Like you would with an Emerson "wave"). I'm rt handed but carry all my knives that way to leave room for a "longer range" weapon to be carried in my right front pocket. Works pretty well for me.

I always carry Right front pocket. I do put my sebenza in a pouch when I am wearing dress pants though.

Tip up right front pocket like all my knives with the exception of the tip down only ones which don't see much carry usually.
I used to carry left handed sometimes too but now a flashlight takes that spot.

From this thread alone it seems like there are quite a few people that are left handed--four on the first page of this thread!

I'm also left handed and have it set up for left pocket, tip up.

Right handed, but carry tip up in left front pocket.

Back right hand pocket, tip down. Actually its one of the few knives I carry tip down. But i'm a small guy so it fits most comfortably like that.

I carry two knives a hard use folder tip up in my right rear pocket and a sharp thin bladed light use folder in the left rear pocket tip up clip configured as a left hand knife
