Is it worth the wait, and not sure how i would feel carrying something more expensive.

What kinda wait are you talkin?
Either is a great choice though

If you are confident you won't loose a knife wait for the sebenza. You can always send it in the CRK for a spa treatment and basically get a new knife returned. I'll echo that both are great edcs

If you're like me, you've had the Sebenza itch for awhile. No matter what I bought I'd always end up kicking myself saying 'You should've just waited for a damn Sebenza!'

I'm not saying don't buy a PM2, but I am saying the sooner you get that Sebenza the better you'll feel. You won't wonder any longer whether or not you like them - you'll know for sure. Ultimately the way I got my Sebenza was getting to a point where I had 3 knives I was willing to part with that, in total, would give me enough funds selling them to buy a Sebenza. If you want to go that route just try to find good deals so you can sell the knives at or near what you paid for them.

I don't get the hype behind the Seb after handling it. Most of the urge to buy one is based on hype. But then, hype is what led me to the PM2, and it turned out to be quite true. If you have handled a Sebenza and it is THE knife, wait for it. If you're going by hearsay, get the PM2 first.

as far as the wait goes, i'm willing to wait 8-9 months, but is it worth the wait? am i getting that much more knife?
i'm buying it to use it and not wear it like a piece of jewelry.

The pm2 is a perfect size compromise on the military, I am not a fan of the compression lock though. Great knife otherwise.

I carry a large micarta Insingo every day. I also have an Umnumzaan with the new pivot and a classic lg micarta Sebenza. Great knife. The Sebenza is the measuring stick for a reason. Good looks and a hard worker.

That is quite a while to wait, do you have another good knife to EDC during that time? I usually wait 8-9 days between knife purchases :p

Everyone seems to like it, not me. The knife itself feels perfect in the hand but I can't get past the lock. I don't like it at all. I've had issues with liner locks but not the military. Go for a used Seb, the warranty travels with the knife.

i have a knife or two to carry me over for a while but is the sebenza going to do or handle more jobs than the pm2?

Cards, are you looking at a large or small Sebenza? The reason I ask is for just under $300, you can get an A.G. Russell Acies 2. Ti framelock, a full blade of ZDP-189 at just a hair under 3", and a wonderfully smooth knife with extremely high tolerances. My Acies examples are every bit as good as my Classic Sebenza. Granted, I haven't bought another Sebenza since 2001, so I can't compare the newer models.

AG's knife is a beautiful piece of work. http://www.agrussell.com/a-g-russell-acies2-framelock/p/RUShhhUF13ZDP/

nice knife. will give a look and it looks like a sebenza a little.

Same here. If there was a liner lock version I woukd never have sold mine. But cards, don't knock it til you try it. A lot of people love the compression lock, it's just not for me.

Like mentioned, it's not so much "worth the wait", but rather that nagging desire. I've had several of each and still have a couple. I never wanted to outright buy a Sebenza so I traded a few nice knives for my first. Kept it a while, but sold it for to buy a nice watch. Got the itch again and traded the same way into another. Traded that one for an SnG and of course got the itch again selling a couple nice knives for a classic small. The Sebenza isn't going to dazzle with the latest super steel, ball bearings, flipper, etc.. but that's what makes it special for me. Just one of those timeless things that works. If it's nagging on you eventually you'll get one.

Its not jewelry, and is tougher than the Para 2.
You don't have to believe me, but all the great things you hear about the Sebenza isn't hearsay as one poster has suggested.
Nevermind the mind blowing fit and finish, its the best production design out there IMO. Very compact for the size, and the straight handle is a great if you plan to use it often. I worked as a butcher for many years, and had a game processing business. You will never see a person that uses a knife for a living not use a straight handle. There's a reason for that. If you just want it to feel good in hand, there are others that feel better in hand, but when you start making all types of cuts(esp cutting away from yourself) often you will see why the straight handle works so well.

That said, the Para 2 is a great value, and its one of my favorites also.
A short wait I would say the Sebenza, but if its going to be 9 months you may be better off getting the Para 2 now.

Really though, you are the only one that can make this decision.

Both are awesome knives. You really can't go wrong either way. It is going to come down to personal preference really. Myself, I don't like the thick beefy folder. I have had a Manix 2, Kershaw JYD 2.2 and passed them on. Have a small 21 and delica frn that I carry constantly.

If your on the fence about the sebenza find a user in the style your after on the exchange and pick that up cheaper.

Buying it to use? Then no. The performance is not 3-4 times better at 3-4 times the price. It has to be something you really have to have, otherwise as a cutting instrument it doesn't outperform many cheaper knives, and the lock is kinda outdated. I'm biased though, I am not a fan of framelocks and will actually buy a linerlock before I'd buy one.

Still an awesome looking knife that from all accounts performs well as EDC, but the price tag is there for the fit and finish, and the name, NOT for a performance gap.

I'd like to add that like you and others, I've asked myself if I needed/wanted this knife, and the price point versus materials/performance/lock style was not worth it. Without you being able to HANDLE it, I don't think it is worth it. But if you hold it and love it, as people like Ken44 have, then your choice is made.

I think that you should get the Para2 first, then get the Seb. Then again, if you get the Sebenza and don't like it, you can easily sell it. I may be repeating myself but it really depends on whether you think that particular knife is worth the price.

I love my Para 2, but I admit that I have my eye on a large Sebenza "Glorious", and that knife WILL be in my collection in the next few months. That is assured.
