Yes, these steels are best for machenery and pocketknife fine blades, not banging against wood with all your might! Well hardened 12c27, 14c28, 1075, 1095 will all do the trick way before I'd let 8" of Maxamet (Why would that exist? Kitchen knife? Dagger?) fly to the wood.None of these steels are for your use case (I saw your thread) IMHO.
14c28n is the toughest budget steel and it is easy to sharpen in the field. But I suggest a full tang fixed blade (eg Ruike Hornet), not a folder like a PM2. I maintain my Hornet with a DC4 pocket stone, they both live in my backpack, fwiw.

Yeah I think that's right. Looks to me like Spyderco is really appealing to the weekend warrior crowd. People who have a diamond sharpener at home, etc.None of these steels are for your use case (I saw your thread) IMHO. Okay Elmax is.
Not much but thanks. But I suggest a full tang fixed blade (eg Ruike Hornet), not a folder like a PM2. I maintain my Hornet with a DC4 pocket stone, they both live in my backpack, fwiw.
I agree. I would love a 1095 Para 2. I don't know what the Opinel #8 uses but it's great. I use it 98% of the time. But I don't want to rely on it not folding/breaking and be in the woods without a knife.Well hardened 12c27, 14c28, 1075, 1095 will all do the trick
Haha no. Spend six weeks in the CO forests with no resupply and see if you feel the same about that.Even a Mora Companion Heavy Duty, while not full tang, is more than enough for the tasks he speaks of.
Opinel 8 uses 12c27 and Mora Kansbol uses 14c28n. These steels to me are stainless equivs to 1075, 95, tough steels. I think you are under-estimating Mora. It requires no special tools to work with, it is carbon or stainless steel, damn fine steel at that. Your grandfather would have been more than happy with a Mora.I agree. I would love a 1095 Para 2. Anyway, I guess my answer is: Para 2 in 1095! Any steel that your grandfather would have been able to work with. I have no uses for these steels that require special tools to work with.
I've had a Companion and a Garberg. I traded the companion for not having to carry that stupid thing anymore, and I traded the Garberg for an Opinel. Great trades.Opinel 8 uses 12c27 and Mora Kansbol uses 14c28n. These steels to me are stainless equivs to 1075, 95, tough steels. I think you are under-estimating Mora. I don't know who you are that you think Mora uses some Elmaxamelto super steel

Well, you were ragging on Mora and said you have no use for modern steel right in repsonse to my comment, also you were singing Opinel's praises when they use the exact same stainless as Mora, sometimes a better one. Like I said, 14c28n on the Garberg, in what way is that insufficient? It's equivalent or better than Opinel. Also, it is way harder to carve wood with an Opinel than a Mora, even one not purpose-built for wood-carving.I've had a Companion and a Garberg. I traded the companion for not having to carry that stupid thing anymore, and I traded the Garberg for an Opinel. Great trades.
Who the fuck said that More uses super steel?
You just keep failing to actually read what I write.Like I said, 14c28n on the Garberg, in what way is that insufficient? It's equivalent or better than Opinel.
Just a hint, I have heard mods here look down on swearing,
Well then why don't you explain yourself? You sing Opinel's praises, yet bash Mora, who uses the same steel, only difference is I could stick some Moras in a tree, stand on them, pull it out and have it be fine. WHY don't you like Mora? You have not written anything about it, my guy. You laughed at my suggestion and basically said "yeah right" and then when I asked why, you said you sold your sucky Moras. You just keep failing to actually read what I write.

Hrrmm, you don't need a knife to do that. A titanium pry bar will do that just fine.I'm not a steel expert but whatever is easiest to sharpen and won't chip when I use a knife to pry bark off trees.
Same here.52100
True but I am thinking of backpacking, and a titanium pry bar is too heavy to take then. Also it won't "get in there" like a pointed tool.A titanium pry bar will do that just fine.
Right, like I said, way too heavy, at least for backpacking. Cool as an "EDC" but I think at that point I would just have a multi tool. Anyway my vote on PM2 steel is still 1095.
