Pm2 work knife alternatives?

If the Manix fits your hand, it's a great knife. The ergonomics are not quite right for me but having messed around with it, taken it apart, etc.; I appreciate it and have no reservations in recommending it.

Don't think I saw it mentioned yet, but if we're talking a good work Spyderco, the Lil Temperance 3 might suffice if you're okay with a shorter but stouter blade than the PM2. The cutting edge is almost as long as the PM2 but the overall length is shorter since it doesn't have the finger choil.

I really prefer that style of handle. Both the RockJumper and the LeafJumper go no-choil and have excellent ergonomics. They are back-locks and only available in VG-10 or K390 so not sure how well they fit here. Still, they are recently discontinued and can be found for decent prices if you look around.

Stretch 2 is worth a look. Not as fancy as an Inkosi or even a PM2, but an outstanding knife if you like back locks. The VG10 version is just fine, and not overly expensive. The K390 version is an excellent knife, but if you're worried about sweat and corrosion the basic VG10 version will probably be the better choice.

I think the Stretch 2 is one of the best Spyderco designs there is.

The PM2 is an excellent choice
The shaman can also work fine if you want something bigger

An Hinderer xm-18 3.5can also be a good altetnative in a slicer or harpoon spanto grind. RHK recently started to offer hollow grind slicers

For me I have used the PM2 as my work knife and I have enjoyed it
At the moment I give a try to the Cold Steel AD-10. It is good but bigger in the pocket than the PM2

what do you do for work?

Demko AD20 or 20.5
Ive tried the 20.5 and liked it. ergos are great! a bit thick behind the edge and i would prefer to carry usa made. I've have been on the hunt to find a ad20s for a while now and can't seem to land one. also very hesitant to purchase on the secondary due to the clones available.

When I was still working I carried a Barrage. For me it was as close to perfect as anything available. I really liked the size, blade shape and AO plus Axis made it a true one hand knife. I tried a griptilian too but the AO was the decider. My name on the blade brought the knife back to me twice.

I got my AD20 off the exchange here after I listed a WTB post. My AD20.5's are anything but thick behind the edge. My spear point is a FFG slicing demon. Maybe you had the sharkfoot blade? That's a little thicker behind the edge. Good luck with your search.

As much as the pm2 seems to have fallen out of favor over the last few years, it is still the one I like best and the one that is affordable enough to use for whatever comes up each day. Most of the comments above suggest you already have the best knife for your needs. This is the conclusion I came to myself as well.

This ... this is good.
It wasn't a criteria that I listed but the $ definitely plays a part as well and the pm2 is is definitely in a sweet spot for that!

Benchmade Griptilians make good work knives, are reasonably priced new, and generally available on the Exchange for less. The 550 has a Spydie hole if you're leaning away from thumb studs or the 551 if not. The stock Noryl scales certainly don't lack for grip, but I've replaced all mine but one with aftermarkets. There are plenty of choices for those from various makers.

My "stocker" Griptilian is a 551-1 (now discontinued) which came open-back in G10 with 20CV steel and would be an excellent choice at a decent price on the secondary market. My wife has a 550-1 (Spydie hole Model) which had the older style hollow-ground blade and is a helluva good knife.

My most used Grip for work is a well-worn 551SBK with Igorded OD Micarta scales but my Ritter Griptilian in M390 with Wilkins coarse G10 is one stout work knife. Since Ritter and Benchmade "broke up" his blade design is now produced in Magnacut by Hogue as the KW exclusive RSK Mk1-G2 priced around 180 bucks. I've been so pleased with my small/large Rittilkens pair that I've eschewed the Hogue, but looking it up now I find it quite tempting.

As an aside, I have a number of PM2's and Millies that I love and carry often, but am wary of them as full-on work users due to their long, extra-pointy tips. I also have several CRKs, RHKs, Spydies, other BMKs, a Les George, 3 Shiro's, an Al Mar, a ZT, and few others that are in the work rotation.

Maybe something from Cold Steel with the Atlas lock? Perhaps the pull-to-unlock action may be the ticket when paired with jumbo thumb studs?
