Ok, silly question. I'm now renting a po box because of the problem I had before Christmas with a knife being stolen. My silly question is, with the po box being with the USPS can I have things sent to it from other carriers, ie FedEx, UPS, etc?

To the best of my knowkedge UPS does not deliver to PO boxes. We get stuff returned at work that we ship UPS because the customer is using a PO box.

Not sure about FedEx.

When using those two you could ask the shipper to check the "require signature" box on the form or on line. That way, if you aren't home to sign for it, they leave a note at your house telling you to come get it at their local distribution center.

Bingo..UPS and Fedx will not deliver to P.O. Boxes..the other choice would be to pay the $35-40 bucks quarterly at a UPS store for an address then there won't be any worries about lost or stolen packages at home.

UPS and Fedex will not deliver to a PO box. USPS and DHL are the only couriors that will deliver to a PO box that I know of. If you are worried about the items and must ship with UPS or Fedex you could always label it " hold of pick up @ depot" or "call for pick up" and give the address of the closest deopt to you.
I have done that several times and have never had a problem doing it.

I believe FedEx sometimes transfers deliveries to USPS, but obviously I've never been on the receiving end of one of their deliveries up here in Canada. I've tracked shipments for people where this was done though.

I can't answer about Fed Ex. However when UPS has a package for a p.o. box they generaly send a pick up notice to the p.o. box, then you have to call and arrange to pick it up at the UPS office.

I make arrangements with whoever I am purchasing from for priority mail delivery.

I have had a couple packages delivered where UPS transfered delivery to the USPS, however it was from one specific vendor in both cases.

Fed ex will notify the shipper that it wasn't delivered due to a PO Box and promptly return it to sender. UPS will leave a pick up notice like Wildmike said.

It isn't that the other services won't deliver to a USPS PO Box, it's that USPS prefers to accept US mail, that is, mail with their own stamps on it, for which they've been paid. :)

When the shipper has hired UPS, why would USPS deliver?

Since this has absolutely nothing to do with Wilderness or Survival, I'm moving it to FEEDBACK, where we generally post questions of service by outside agencies and dealers.

If a seller ships by UPS or FEDEX to me, after inquiry on my part as to whether they can ship by USPS to my PO Box (with emphasis on the fact that USPS will not accept UPS or FEDEX shipments), I usually get a card at my PO Box that I will have to pickup the package at the local UPS or FEDEX depot. Thankfully, the UPS depot is on the way home, and not that far from my post office.

At my local Post Office they won't accept UPS or FedEx, nor will they allow either company to leave a notice in my P.O. Box.

No you cannot. P.O. boxes will only accept US mail deliveries.
