Pocket clipped knives

I have for over 20 years carried a Benchmade or spyderco in my waistband...appendix carry. Very comfortable. Now that I have started carrying my handgun in that position, I have tried clipping my knife in my front pocket like I see everyone do. It carries well, but now I can’t get to my keys without scraping the back of my hand up on my knife. How do you people do this? Nothing in your pocket?

Two options for preventing keys from getting to your pocketed knife:

:) Cargo pants / shorts ! Reserve front pockets for my XL folders alone . Everything else rides in the cargo side pockets .:thumbsup:

My right front pocket is my dedicated knife pocket. I try to keep it empty for the most part. Once in a while I’ll throw my keys in or some spare change, but I usually try and sort it out once I get the chance, like change in the car/jar at home, or returning the keys to my back left pocket. It works alright for me. I keep my daily keys as minimal as I possibly can. Fob/car key/house key.

For me, my keys are attached to a carabiner. The carabiner attaches to a belt loop and the keys are in my back right pocket to keep them from making noise. Knife is clipped in my front right. Nothing else is usually in that pocket except sometimes a small Leatherman or a smaller knife loose in the pocket.

I keep my front right pocket as dedicated to my clip-knife, or if I am carrying something else in that pocket, I use a different pocket for the knife.

I have been wearing Duluth Trading firehose flex cargo pants lately - they have lots of pockets, the velcro holds up well, the pockets are deep, and they are designed as if someone actually WORE them to determine if the design elements were worthy.

So - to answer your question - yes, I keep only a knife in that pocket when carrying a clip-knife.

Get a different knife. ;)
Kinda kidding...but obviously thinner and more slender knives tend to make it easier. I have no problem accessing right-front while carrying a 940, but I struggle with the PM2.

With cargo pants, I often go opposite DocJD DocJD and put my Knife there.

I don't wear tight pants.

Problem averted.

Honestly though, I also choose slimmer, smaller, knives that I can more easily maneuver my hand around. Though these days I carry traditionals in my back pocket as much as I carry clip knives.

Phone in right front, wallet back right, keys/pry/flashlight/Leatherman ps4 in front left. Two knives everyday, a big(ger) and small(er), the big one always goes next the the wallet towards the front and the smaller goes on the front right towards the back of the pocket. Sometimes it's hard to get my phone out depending on what knife is in there with it.

When I pocket carry my Ruger LCP II in my front right pocket (e.g. when I have to wear business attire, but need to be able to quickly toss my weapon in my car before going into a gfz) I usually just switch to carrying my knife in my front left pocket. I keep some knives rigged for left hand carry for just this purpose.

Left front pocket for knife carry, keys in front right or carabiner, but I have not tried to place on belt loop and in back pocket to prevent noise. I also have a KSF
Pocket sheath I slip into my pocket. I have to watch carabiner because it will open at times and drop a key. Quick thought, anyway to make a spot on the holster of the gun? I have seen a few kydex holsters with a kydex slot, or a good quality leather holster?

I have a SAK, (Vagabond) attached to my keys. It acts as a dangler, it’s hangs out as the keys in my pocket. Every now and then they still fall down in my pocket but not often enough to make me consider another option. But then again I live in Winnipeg so 8 months out of the year we need a jacket so extra pockets!

I too have a problem of squeezing my hand into the remaining opening of my pocket and rubbing against my knife. Thats just something I have learned to live with. I have never scraped my keys on my knife.

Pants with larger pockets I usually carry wallet front right with my knife and it works great don’t bang into one another or anything
