Pocket clipped knives

I started carrying my knives in my back left pocket a few years ago. This was mainly due to a story I read about a real estate agent being attacked in a home he was checking out. He couldn't access his knife due to his right hand being pinned while he was on the ground. My knife would be a last line of defense, as I carry mostly for utility, but I can access my gun/pepper spray with my right hand at the appendix spot or front right pocket and my knife with my left hand if absolutely needed.

I've found that the best solution for me is pants/shorts with a dedicated phone pocket. I particularly like the chinos by 5.11. I carry keys in the front left pocket with chap stick and a flash light clipped. My phone goes in the phone pocket, and either pepper spray or a small fixed blade go in the front right. My folding knife is clipped in the back left, with my wallet in the back right.

I have for over 20 years carried a Benchmade or spyderco in my waistband...appendix carry. Very comfortable. Now that I have started carrying my handgun in that position, I have tried clipping my knife in my front pocket like I see everyone do. It carries well, but now I can’t get to my keys without scraping the back of my hand up on my knife. How do you people do this? Nothing in your pocket?

You have only one pocket?

Some of y'all need to Marie Kondo your pockets LOL. I'm amazed by how much crap some folks carry around on a daily basis!! Here's my setup:

Front left - phone (iPhone in a Lifeproof case)
Front right - Keys & knife & pocket change
Back left - nothing
Back right - wallet (Saddleback small bi-fold - highly recommend!!)

My keys are stripped down with minimal junk on them, a Kroger plus card and a little bit of bicycle spoke & nipple (I used to build custom bicycle wheels for a few years) are the only non-key adornments. Two of the keys I rarely need I'm tempted to remove to slim it down even more..... One of the downsides of newer cars is the big ol' keyfobs they use.

My wallet stays cleaned out of unnecessary crap to keep it nice and thin. It's also just easier to find stuff when there's less stuff to look through, I always know exactly where everything is.

I like slim pocket knives so they don't take up much space, currently carry either a Leek or a Bugout w/titanium scales. Knife stays pushed as far right as possible in the pocket, so it stays out of my way. I can get to my keys without even touching my knife with most pants. I'd like to try a Spyderco, but the spydie hole + leaf blade shape makes for a "tall" knife and I'm worried they'd be getting in my way in the pocket and I wouldn't actually carry it. The Bugout is only 1" tall at it's tallest point, the Leek is under an inch tall.

I personally don't want to carry anything on my belt, I think it would annoy me, and it's the ultimate dorky dad look IMO, over shadowed only by a fanny pack.

I know some folks have jobs that require carrying around more stuff, but some folks are just into 'EDC gear' and like having stuff even if they don't really need it. I'm all about less is more.

The wallet, as pictured, has three credit/debit cards in it, drivers license, a few insurance cards, a few other 'club' cards, and ~6 or 7 money bills. Oh, and a handful of business cards.

Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans a few times & you'll quickly learn to carry everything in your front pockets.

Is that a banana in your pocket? Yes. Yes it is.

I’m all about more is more and less is less.

Keys go in the left front pocket. Everyone knows that:eek:
This ^
or when commuting on my bicycle in my left rear pocket. I don't use keys much; house key and bike lock rarely. I carry a fob I bought in Sante Fe the first time I ever visited there that I like a lot; that has nothing to do with anything I just said it.

Dang I thought you were going to ask what is the best clip. :(
I got a bit obsessed with clips is how I know.
Cold Steel clip off the Holdout One (I've put it on smaller knives also).
Spyderco Military is also top shelf.
Honorable mention Spyderco Wire clip but not everyone gets a long with them; I do.

I carry many of my knives in a belt pouch (ammo clip pouch).
Often I take the clip off the knife so that is part of why the pouch. This pouch clips on so you don't have to unbuckle your belt.
Knives I carry in the pouch :
Cold Steel Ti Lite IV
Benchmade Griptillian
Spyderco Pattadda

For other knives I use pouches/sheaths that stay with the particular knife (all folders) such as my Case Trappers. Almost all of these pouches have clips rather than loops.

Or you could just have a Knife Valet and let them worry about how to carry your EDCs.

I didn't feel like wading through 3 pages of response, but I have a thought on this matter and Mods if this has been addressed please delete this post. In my city (Chicago) the says you may carry a knife if concealed and the use of most clips makes the knife slightly visible. Under the law should an LEO notice your knife he or she may search and arrest you. Sure I know you do it all the time & have never had any problems. I know I can make a phone call and my lawyer will get it thrown out or reduce the charge to a misdemeanor but I just don't want to deal with it. Call me paranoid but that's my provincial view on the matter. Carry on
